Sometimes you just have to admit how wrong you are ...

Reflection can be a great thing sometimes, but mostly it just reminds a person how many mistakes you make.

When I was single, I was very active on the forum, and mostly in political talks. Recently I was bored at work, and decided to look over some of my older posts, and I realized how wrong I was on so many different things, especially on the political front.

I know that it means absolutely nothing to most of you, but I think an apology is in order. If anything I've written in the past offended anyone, I am sorry. I act like an ass sometimes, especially in the safety of an internet forum, but I'm working on it.

Having a kid reminds you that your actions, regardless of where you are, has consequences. If I am to be the kind of dad I want to be, I need to realize that.

I think short of personal attacks, I don't see a need to apologize for expressing your opinion. That's just my opinion though.

Good on you, WVU.

It's not easy for people to admit they are wrong. For some people it seems like an impossibility.

While I was never super active in a lot of political threads here and can only think of a very few things that I might have regretted over the years, about 4 years ago or so I pretty much decided to retire from political or religious threads for the most part. The discussions just never really seemed to accomplish all that much.

It's worked out pretty well.

Good advice. I try to stay away from the political thread although I sometimes do get sucked in. I try not to post anything that I would not want my kids to read and for the most part think I have done pretty well in that respect.

I made the intentional choice to do the same some time ago as well.

As for opinions changing over time; I've occasionally looked into older resurrected threads and come across a post where I felt "Hey..This guy has the right of this" Only to scroll over to see the user name..."Oh that was me. Like I said, that is a pretty smart fellow".

I'm glad so much of my early days on the internet are virtually lost at this point.

Having opinions is fine. Expressing them in an asshat manner, like I did a goodly amount of time, was my issue. And, honestly, some of my opinions back then really made little sense.

I used to write code in PASCAL and Delphi back in the 90s. No idea what the fuck I was thinking. (And I used a Voodoo Extreme card too. That was my first graphics card.)

I can see that, definitely (not you specifically, just in general).

Kind of reminds me of that fine line between cocky & funny.

Sometimes I see old threads that get bumped and find a post of mine. We're usually talking years ago here 2003-2008, let's say. And I must say, the current me is usually pretty impressed at my quality of posting back then.

Unfortunately, I feel like my posts have devolved a ton, and I have no idea how to get back to that level of competence anymore. I am getting lapped now by fifth graders and Shorty.

On the bright side in 5 years you'll consider this post to be a masterpiece.

it's corny, but i say it all the time- we're all adjectives. it's the noun we describe that's important.

Norv Turner technically has as many rings as Johnson. Look it up.

I still find you to be wrong about Woody Allen, but I am glad that you have found personal happiness. We all deserve it.

I don't remember you, but I know I've changed a lot over the years on this board. Kids, health issues and just growing up have definitely changed how I look at life. I used to be a loud-mouthed ass. Now, I just don't post much. Partly because of health stuff, but partly because I'm just embarrassed by the guy I've been on this board over the years.

It's the same thing with Facebook. I rarely even use it because I'm just not willing to put myself out there anymore. I'm at the point in my life where, as long as my family knows me, that's all that matters to me. No offense to all of you guys of course.

I've said a lot of things I wished I could take back. If there was a big red "DELETE MY PROFILE" button I would have done it probably 5 or 6 times.

There needs to be such a button...

The older I get the more I see the wisdom in the old adage about politics and religion not being topics for polite society.
