CL Announces Best Glovemen for 2118
Saturday, November 5th, 2118 Good defense can be the difference between taking the championship and coming in second. The Continental League announced its top defenders at each position today. Here are the Slick Fielder Award winners for 2118: Pitcher: Robinson Flores (Washington Freedom) Catcher: António Jiménez (Manchester Terriers) First Baseman: José Fontanez (Washington Freedom) Second Baseman: Ollie Huggins (Oshawa Mullets) Third Baseman: Shotaro Ono (Manchester Terriers) Shortstop: Salvador Ortíz (Manchester Terriers) Left Fielder: Cristián De Jesús (Plantana Pirates) Center Fielder: Ramón Cordero (Havana Banana Sluggers) Right Fielder: Adrian Binette (Manchester Terriers) Year's Best Gloves Selected by Republic League Saturday, November 5th, 2118 What does it take to win a Slick Fielder Award? It's a combination of good hands, knowing how to play the hitters, all-out hustle and a willingness to sacrifice your body to make a play. Good speed and a good arm never hurt, either, but not always required. This year's all-defense team in the Republic League consists of: Pitcher: Ramón Shoemaker (Portland Axemen) Catcher: Pat Johnson (Las Vegas Wildcats) First Baseman: Harry Norman (Portland Axemen) Second Baseman: John Maxwell (Spring Lions) Third Baseman: Jim Davis (Las Vegas Wildcats) Shortstop: Greg Russell (Ann Arbor Wolverines) Left Fielder: Carlos Meléndez (Chicago Hitmen) Center Fielder: Mario González (Cleveland Naps) Right Fielder: Chip Richardson (Spring Lions)

CL's #1 Hitter for 2118 Named
Wednesday, November 9th, 2118 Ken Hodges will undoubtedly earn a fat paycheck next year after winning the 2118 Continental League Bartolo Liriano Award. If London doesn't shell out some big dollars for this second baseman, somebody else will. He finished the season with 209 hits, 62 doubles, 2 triples, 14 home runs and 74 RBIs, hit .340 in 163 games and scored 109 runs. García Selected RL's Top Batter Wednesday, November 9th, 2118 Jaime García has been around FOOL-X enough to know a good hot streak when he sees one -- and he got to see one firsthand all year. For his standout run through the 2118 season, he's taking home the Bartolo Liriano Award in the Republic League. The Portland right fielder put up a batting average of .315 with 24 doubles, 3 triples, 46 home runs and 141 RBIs.

I was mostly cherry-picking some bargains to hit the key spots I needed filled, and by and large, I think I succeeded. I made six offers and four were accepted.
It's nice to bring Gamboa back to finish his career here. It would be extra nice if he maintains his ratings the whole way. I wonder if I can get one last hurrah from the 35+ year old vets on the team (Sanchez, Flores, Gamboa, Acevedo). Three of those guys have been stalwarts for my team since they came up from the minors.
