Arrow Reindeer Games 2012

Reindeer Games 2012

As everyone knows, all of the other reindeer wouldn't let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games. And, frankly, Rudolph is pissed. As everyone also knows, vengeance is a dish best served cold...North Pole cold.

This game is one of humiliation. The goal - how you win - is to represent the least-humiliated of the 8 reindeer. Each of the 8 reindeer are represented by players, who try to target (humiliate) other deer while also defending themselves. Rudolph is a wildcard who is out to get all the others; he does not need to defend since he has already been utterly humiliated.

Rules:

1. Reindeer are assigned automatically to each player, based on the first letter of your FOFC user name (see list below). Your deer is Rudolph if your FOFC user name starts with a number, or if you simply prefer to play as Rudolph (this choice is permanent and must be made before you post for your assigned deer). Solitary exception: I reserve the right to play as either Blitzen or Rudolph each round. *evil laughter*

Dasher [A,B,C]
Dancer [D,E,F]
Prancer [G,H,I]
Vixen [J,K,L]
Comet [M,N,O]
Cupid [P,Q,R]
Donner [S,T,U]
Blitzen [V,W,X,Y,Z]

Rudolph [#] or by choice

2. The game will consist of 10 rounds. Each round lasts 24 hours, and the 24-hour period begins with my (WSUCougar) post announcing the start of each round, and ends with posts no later than 23 hours and 59 minutes afterward. Note that due to timing and real life responsibilities, there will be gaps between the end of a round and the beginning of the next, and rounds may potentially start at any time. Any actions posted after the 24-hour period ends and before the start of the next round are ignored and have no effect on scoring.

3. Each player may post ONE action per round; actions consist of either (a) targeting another deer, or (b) defending. Because he has no reputation to defend, Rudolph's players only target other deer.

4. NO EDITING OF ACTION POSTS!!! This is vital to the scoring process. If your action post is edited, it is disqualified in terms of game activities.

5. Targeting

You humiliate a deer by posting "Target > [deer's name]" and ONE type of humiliation (see below). Example post: Target > Cupid > Mange

IMPORTANT: Each type of humiliation has a minimum number of posts required to activate it. Mange, for example, is activated as soon as it's posted by one player, while Elves requires four posts to activate. That means four players have to post the identical targeting message by the end of the round to score the humiliation points! Obviously, you get more points for the multiple-post humiliations, but can you guarantee your teammates will follow up? Do you take the quick and easy stuff, or go for the big hits? Remember, NO EDITING OF ACTION POSTS!

Types of humiliation (number of posts required and "HP" or humiliation points inflicted):
(1 post = 1 HP): Mange - With all of the publicity and photo ops, no one wants their coat called into question.
(2 posts = 3 HP): Antler envy - Having a "nice rack" is an integral part of reindeer status, and some deer are more endowed than others. Concerns about one's rack are humiliating.
(3 posts = 5 HP): Sleigh - Slowing down the sleigh is a cardinal sin. Whispers may lead to performance anxiety.
(4 posts = 7 HP): Elves - You've seen the inappropriate conduct videos and attended the sensitivity training. You don't want the folks with the pointed ears bad-mouthing you. They don't just make toys...they're gossip-mongers.
(5 posts = 10 HP): Santa - As a reindeer, it begins and ends with The Big Guy. It's a non-stop battle for pecking order on this team, deciding who's naughty, who's nice, and who's Santa's favorite. If your reputation with him ain't so jolly, he may use that whip on you more frequently or - God forbid - bump you from the team for that red-nosed freak.

6. Defending:
Instead of targeting another deer, you may simply post "DEFEND" to remove one HP from your reindeer's score. Multiple "DEFEND" posts do not accumulate like target actions; each post still removes only one HP. A deer's HP score can never go below zero.

7. Rudolph's Revenge:
At the end of each round, after the round has been scored, the deer with the lowest humiliation score takes humiliation points equal to a d6 (six-sided die-roll).

I'll probably start the first round tomorrow morning, to leave time for questions and clarifications.

Yay Reindeer games, glad to see its return. Only bummer is no elaborate spreadsheet appears to be needed this year.

Do we need to commit/confirm that we want to play? Are there are a max number of players per team?

Two clarifying points:

1) Each defend removes 1 HP point no matter what (as long there are more than 1 HP gone), correct? So if Dasher has 3 HP of damage and Coffee Warlord, AnalBumCover, and CrimsonFox all choose to defend and there are no attacks on Dasher that round, the round ends with Dasher back down to 0 (not including Rudolph's Revenge).

2) Do attacks have to be from the same deer? For instance, what if Comet only has 0 HP of damage while the rest of us are at 10 HP? If I (for Donner) post "Target > Comet > Sleigh" and CW and JAG both follow suit from their respective reindeer, does that mean it's a 5 HP hit or do all 3 have to come from Donner folks? If the latter is the case, should we have the posts instead be "Donner > Target > Comet > Sleigh"?

Your #1 is correct. On #2, attacks DO have to come from the same deer. You can add the originating deer to your targeting message but it's not necessary.

One more clarifying point:

Let's say there's a really active group of names. Let's call them the ABCs, or "Dasher". If they have 3 people post "Target > Comet > Sleigh" and another 3 people post "Target > Blitzen > Sleigh", do both attacks hit?

Along the same line, if 6 people post "Target > Comet > Sleigh" is that a double hit?

Yes - deer teams can have multiple attacks going at the same time.

I'm guessing that's covered here: "Rudolph is a wildcard who is out to get all the others; he does not need to defend since he has already been utterly humiliated."

Rudolph can't win and it would be silly to target him. His score is already "Infinity HP"

Collusion is allowed and appreciated, correct (since it's a cutthroat game of deceit and humiliation anyways)?

Questions regarding:
7. Rudolph's Revenge:
At the end of each round, after the round has been scored, the deer with the lowest humiliation score takes humiliation points equal to a d6 (six-sided die-roll).

A. Does "lowest humiliation score" mean the most lost hit points or least lost hit points?

B. Is it based on the lowest humiliation score across all rounds or only for that particular round

C. What is done in the event that multiple deer are tied with lowest humiliation score?
