The Ladder: Promotion/Relegation rules for new league setup
If you are not in the league, please vote for the third option only.
Hi guys. We never really established official rules for promotion/relegation under our new league structure. For the second level (PAC, Big East, Big 12, ACC), it's clear enough: Win the conference championship game and you move up within your group to either the Big Ten or SEC. For the third level (MWC and C-USA), things aren't quite as clear. When I was designing things, my thought was "win your division to move up", but now I'm thinking it'd be better to have to win the conference championship game in order to move up. This would mean that sometimes second level teams will not be relegated because the team trying to move up and replace them lost in the conference championship game. I figured we should have a vote to decide, especially because I am in the MWC and thus have a conflict of interest. Should the rule be: 1. Third level teams need to win their conference championship game to move up or 2. Third level teams move up if they win their division Last edited by Kodos : 06-26-2014 at 12:04 PM. |

As far as tie-breakers for the bottom level of the Ladder (WAC, MAC, Independents, Sunbelt) go, I propose we use the in-game division order (not the one from the website, which seems to get things wrong sometimes).
Please feel free to make suggestions. Alternatively, we could use something like this to decide who moves up from the bottom level, as well as who gets relegated from the higher levels: 1. Conference record 2. Overall record 3. Head-to-head record 4. Coin toss Last edited by Kodos : 03-04-2013 at 03:56 PM. |

2 down, 2 up, so win the division makes the most sense to me.

For those voting for "win the conference championship game", what rules do you propose for relegation? There are two conferences above each, so if only one moves up, which conference does it go to, and how do you decide which one to move down?

I was thinking we could use our own tiebreaker system to determine the worst team. Something like the system I mentioned above.

We could probably come up with a better 4th option to move the coin toss down some more. Last edited by Kodos : 03-06-2013 at 10:10 AM. |

I just think it's simpler and more consistent to move up-and-down within the color groups you have above.

I don't have a strong opinion either way, so we'll let the majority rule.

The rule is now: Win your division in Tier 3, move up. Thanks for voting, everyone.
