Family trouble...

Hey everyone,

I feel odd asking this because I am not particularly religious, but I have been praying a lot lately for my GF and her parents. And I know some of you are probably a little bit closer to God than I am, so if you could offer up some prayers I would really appreciate it.

My GF (yes, just a GF, but she's going to be my wife, she just doesn't have the ring yet) has been going through heck.

Her mom had to have surgery last month for blocked arteries and is still recovering. She had to go back to the hospital this week, although the prognosis for her is good.

Her dad was feeling ill and also had to go to the hospital. They are still testing results, but doctors have told my GF to brace for the worst. They believe he has cancer (they are testing a mass they have found).

Her parents are literally three rooms apart. It's kinda crazy. They are both in their 60s. Like I said, her mom is probably going to be okay (God willing), but her dad is almost 70 and has not been in good health for a long time, even without possibly cancer.

So any prayers you can give, I am sure they will help. Thank you.

I'll be pulling for your girlfriend's family. My mom has been going through a ton of health issues lately, so I know what a bad feeling that is. I hope it all works out okay.

Hey, everyone, first off, thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

My GF and I are in a long distance relationship, so it's understandably hard to get information with all that's going on, but unfortunately, they did find out yesterday that he has cancer, and that he needs immediate surgery.

That surgery is happening today. So, please, continued thoughts and prayers, I know they help. You guys have been great. Thank you.

My GF's dad is out of surgery, and the surgery went well. They will now run tests on the tissue, presumeably to confirm their diagnosis and settle on treatment going forward.

As I said before, Emily's dad hasn't really been in great health, so any surgery has the potential for issues. He's going to need to be carefully monitored over the next 24-48 hours as he recovers.

Hope the move has gone well.

Okay, got some news.

First off, Emily's mom is back home and recovering. Like we thought, it was a scare, but she should be fine.

Emily's dad's tests did come back for a rare form of breast cancer (yes, this apparently does happen to men), and they had to go back in for a second surgery to clean out the tumor. Things were really sketchy for a while. The doctors were pretty sure the cancer had started to spread.

So amazingly, after the second surgery, the doctors are saying they believe they got the whole tumor out completely, and any area where the cancer may have started to spread. It's entirely possible that Emily's dad will even get out of this without even doing any chemo, just some pills to take.

He's due to check out today or tomorrow at the latest, and he is in good spirits!

I can't thank you all enough. My GF literally told me as she was giving the news that she felt all the thoughts and prayers from family, friends and good people like yourselves led to this, and she's calling it almost a miracle. I'm just thrilled.

So thank you, this means a lot to me and Emily.

Keep tossing out a prayer or two. There are still some tests to run and he needs to get settled back at home again. But the doctors are much more confident about things now.

Thnaks again.
