I hope we don't diminish Marc's original sentiment. I haven't given this as much of a run-through as I'd like, but all signs point to a masterpiece at this point. As Noop mentioned, it is virtually bug-free (apart from the TCY imports, which I'm sure will be fixed ASAP).

Certainly. I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for Jim's efforts, regardless. Early indications are as you say.
I would point out that this is DAY ONE, however. The test of time will determine whether it is a masterpiece or not.

Completely agree. Also, the game has the "feel" of a new game. One of the problems with FOF4 was it "felt" like a patched game instead of a new version. This one isn't like that for me at all. |

I don't know about anyone else, but I like the look of this game better then recent editions. It just looks and feels so much better.

I think it the game looks great, especially with a couple mods for the background and scoreboard. The logos make a surprisingly good improvement IMO. I've been lowering my screen resolution to 1024x786 on a 19 inch monitor and it looks even better that way, and a lot easier on the eyes.
p.s., it's too bad CM doesn't permit download purchase. I'm not into *that* kind of football at all but I would buy the game it were more convenient to do so. Last edited by yabanci : 11-14-2003 at 05:52 PM. |

I have noticed that FOF2004 looks better. It seems like Jim changed the font of the text. It looks much more...crisp than in FOF4.
(I've never had the chance to call anything "crisp" before, until now. ) |

This made up my mind for me for tonight. I had to wait until today to be able to get it (payday) anyway. I signed on last night and saw an incredible record set for posters yesterday and knew right then that the game must have come out. Unfortunately the forum was down (yet still about 70 people at the forum) so I couldn't see what some of the early impressions were.

We did do download purchase for CM00-01 and CM01-02, I hope to be able to do this again for future games after CM03-04. |

One thing to definitely congratulate Jim on:
There is a buzz around here (and if not here, where?) for FOF2004 that was sorely lacking for FOF4. Hope that, combined with the possibility for impulse buys brings you much success with the new game.

Skydog, this has happen to me. Probably several times and I just noticed it in my last offseason. (I was just fooling around in my first career, not doing much like gamplaning and stuff.) So I kept on getting rid of my head coach when I wanted a DC or OC. In 2008 I did this, but my rookie coach won the Super Bowl, so I was happy!
One thing I do like about the hiring staff is that coaches who have gotten fired can become your OC or DC! Last edited by petrochile : 11-15-2003 at 10:03 AM. |

What exactly do you mean by that? I haven't really paid much attention to the game yet. Does it actually note that a coach has been fired? |

I'll echo those sentiments, and add that the release of the game was made all the more remarkable when one considers the recent upheaval in Jim's personal life. Last edited by Fonzie : 11-15-2003 at 11:26 AM. |

I'm having a blast with this game. It's a tremendous improvement over FOF4, especially the draft and rookie holdout elements.

I whole-heartedly agree with both these statements. The game has felt fresh and challenging to someone who's logged countless FOF hours. And it's amazing to see the forum generating so much FOF discussion and analysis. Hell, I haven't even gotten to try multi-player yet! Excellent work Jim.
