Yep. Win big despite being -4 turnovers and playing with your third-string QB. If that doesn't impress you, there's something wrong with you. And this is from someone who hates the Buckeyes.

Urban Meyer should retire. This had to take a lot out of him.
Luckily Iowa doesnt get them next season.

Me too, I wanted Oregon to win this pretty damn bad, but you can't shit on that performance. Just a dominant display.

Bigger, faster, stronger.
Jim Harbaugh has his work cut out for him. He is going to have to really coach and recruit to catch up to OSU.

Would you go:
1. OSU 2. Alabama 3. Oregon 4. FSU or is Oregon still 2nd?

That's why we backed up the Brinks truck for Urban... This is it right here.
Beat the SEC's unbeatable team with the Big Ten speed, and shut down 3 straight Heisman trophy finalists. Still can't believe it, but I'm gonna enjoy it. So, if we had a chant, would it be B-I-G or B-1-G?

Jones had a great run, but Elliott had almost 700 yards in those games and the defense finally started playing well. Everything just came together at the right time.

That's an SEC team playing in another conference, pretty much what Meyer said he was going to do.

They are big and fast, but Meyer is a hell of a coach, both as a motivator and an offensive game planner. And to Jones going pro, I'm sure someone would pick him, but it would be a disaster. After Tebow and Smith and the revolving door of effective QBs at OSU, any smart GM would have to think a lot of it is Meyer's coaching.

Great game, Oregon. We didn't see the best Oregon had to offer but Ohio State dominated. Four turnovers and still a blowout? Man!

I do have to wonder how TCU would've done in the playoffs though.

It's a Big Ten team playing in the Big Ten. Unless they agreed to realign last night and I missed it. I know that doesn't fit with your "the only real football is southern football" narrative, but there is nothing SEC about Ohio State. The SEC does not have a trademark on big and fast players. And SEC country sure as shit can't produce a coach who can win anything of significance if we are going to look at the last handful of national championships... lot of yankees on that coach list. About the only thing they do own is insufferable arrogance about what constitutes quality football, so congratulations on that. Sure, it's dangerous to list Ohio State and "insufferable arrogance" in the same post, but I'm going to stand by it.

If I want to go pro, Oregon is not in the top 4. They may not even be top 10. The pros that they have are all late round picks it seems like. If I want my closet to have nice Nike clothes or chance to date a hot cheerleader then I go to Oregon. Last edited by murrayyyyy : 01-13-2015 at 09:20 AM. |

Nearly all the contributing players on Ohio State last night are from Ohio and the Midwest. They have a few from the northeast and Cali, and a couple from PA. If you add up all the contributing players from Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Mississippi and Tennessee - you get Joey Bosa (FL), the kicker and the long snapper. Not very "SEC-like" when it comes to players...

I dunno though, with all the spread offense type stuff in the SEC, it seems the SEC is full of Pac12 teams in another conference .

He's a moron if he turns pro. Congrats to Ohio State. They stuck it to the Ducks. Which I predicted would blow out the Buckeyes by 21.

Yeah, as Arles posted, Jones sent that out in the middle of last season. He was suspended for a game for it.

It will be interesting for sure to see what all the QBs do. I guess a lot with depend on what Meyer tells these guys.
If I'm Cardale, I'd probably leave. To me he reminds me of that 6'10 white euro forward with the silky jumper who never gets in any games but just submits workouts, and teams go, "yeah, we'll take him 10th." |

Was watching this game again last night since it is still on WatchESPN... this time with the Oregon radio feed.
Typical home team stuff, nothing too bad... calling for penalties on the hit that sent Mariota out of the game for one play, etc... overall, they were very complimentary of Ohio State. At least until the last touchdown. They spent ten minutes on how "Ohio State is definitely just going to run it up the middle here" or "take a knee with under a minute left". After the TD was scored it was "I lost some respect for them right there... I hate to say it, but it's true," and "I hope someone brings that up in the post-game interviews." Just found it interesting.

My son (who's only rooting interest was for Oregon since he knows an obnoxious tOSU fan or two from school) had a small fit about that last TD. I just wrote it off to being Meyer, never one known for having much in the way of class as I recall. The topic was raised on Forbes.com afterwards incidentally.

Listening to another team's radio feed when my team wins a game is one of my guilty pleasures. I relish it so and do my best to seek them out when I can. This is a direct result of when I had to listen to opposing team's radio feed of Lions' games when I lived abroad. The Lions didn't win many games at all during that three year stretch so I was exposed to humiliations galore. Because there are few things worse than listening to the opposing team's radio feed when your team loses and is generally awful. It's a circle of hell all unto itself.

That last TD has been a little controversial. It was second and goal, Oregon had 2 TOs left, and they did use their first TO earlier in the series. I thought at the time that it was borderline whether to take a knee or punch it in. I was expecting Meyer to take a knee on second down and then run it on 3rd if Oregon used their TO. I was also chanting "Zeeeeke" at the time along with about 50,000 other OSU fans so we may have been partially to blame.
It surprised me more when Mariota went back out on that last possession. I was hoping the whole time that he didn't take any additional hits on those last couple of plays. You'd hate to see any kind of injury that would impact his draft in that situation. |
