I'm asking because maybe the problem I see with HS football on a weekly basis -- rapid expansion of teams contributing to a woeful shortage of competent officials on game night -- might be starting to bite the NCAA a bit too.

20 in the last 20 years. I think the bigger issue is that as the power conferences expanded, they had to pick up officials from the Big East, the MWC, C-USA etc. so guys are more exposed now. I know there are referees I hated when Rutgers was in the Big East that I see doing Big Ten and ACC games now.

I remember a bowl game probably about 10 years ago, it was the Alamo Bowl, i think between Nebraska and Michigan and there were big complaints about the officiating by a Sun Belt crew.

The sun rarely shines when you're an IU football fan. Good game, Tarcone. Wish we didn't have the drops today.

I vaguely remember this game. One of the complaints Michigan fans had was that the refs wouldn't utilize the replay system unless Michigan called a time-out first.

Sorry if my reply came across as salty. It wasn't but was pecked out on a phone so short on words.

Was a good win last night, enjoyed the game greatly.

After this weekend it was even tougher than usual to fill out the bottom portion of my Top 25.

Push Mississippi State as far up as you can....because you are either a genius (if they beat Alabama) or they get bumped from the Top 25 for the rest of the season anyway.

I love the headline of Ohio State Survives Scare against Minnesota by ESPN. At no point in the 2nd half was Minnesota in possession with a chance to tie or take the lead. And entering the 4th quarter they had less than 100 yds. Sure it wasn't a pretty finish but a "scare" is quite the exaggeration...

Their journalistic integrity wouldn't permit them to go with the headline they wanted which was: "Ohio State Survives Scare against Minnesota - Tebow, Tebow, Tebow - watch Stephen A kill and devour Skip Bayless live on camera."
