This is one of those situations where we're presumably supposed to be impressed by his stage acting and fine talents. But I'm very comfortable saying he played an impeccable Hans Gruber and an outstanding Snape (a tough role, IMO) and deserved much love for both. And I'm sure the rest was impressive, too, I'm just insufficiently cultured to know or care about it.

Also, he was wonderful in the understandably underrated Galaxy Quest.

In a role where his character is dealing with exactly what you described above.

I was telling the Mrs. this morning that he has brought life to so many iconic roles that it's a shame that he didn't get the recognition from his peers that he had earned. I think his body of work would have at least warranted that.

Galaxy Quest may be one of the most underrated, under appreciated movies ever.

Sadness.
He never did get to cut Kevin Costner's heart out with a spoon. |

I have a bad feeling this is going to be a bad year for actors and musicians. So many are aging and everyone that got popular in the 60s and 70s are now over 70 years old.

This one bummed me out too. My wife loved him in HP and Sense and Sensibility (even I have to admit he was good in it). And I like him for HP, Galaxy Quest, and Die Hard. Need to watch Hitchhiker's Guide just to hear him play Marvin (which I can imagine he'd nail). Just a phenomenal actor. Sad day indeed.
