Positive Thoughts Needed
Just received a punch to the gut phone call. A good friend was a involved in an accident while transporting prisoners. He was riding shotgun and the accident has put him and the driver in the hospital in very serious condition. One of the two prisoners was killed and the other is also in serious condition.
It sounds touch and go right now. Positive thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

Thank you all. No update yet. It is still very serious; broken neck and bleeding on the brain.

Thoughts are with ya EF! You cannot prepare for hearing something like that... Hold friends near as much as possible.

Update. He is undergoing an operation today to reconstruct his face. I hope that is a decent sign, that they are tackling that. They must feel he is strong enough to handle that operation.

Update: The bone broken in his neck was not spinal. He was able to move his arms and legs and was said to be conscious but has not opened his eyes. They said he has blood on the brain but not as much as first thought (not sure what that means; is it potentially better than thought or does any blood on the brain mean a bad thing).
Sounds like the reconstruction of his face may be a multi-stage process. I guess they also have to replace his tongue, not sure how that process works. It was severed in the accident.

Talked to my friend's brother Jeff (who has actually been a friend for longer, graduated with him and went to school together since second grade; his younger brother joined our group as a member after school, during he was just a younger brother status).
Anyway. Jeff sounded a little upbeat considering what he and his family had been through. Initially they didn't expect him to survive. Now they are encouraged that he is not paralized and will respond to them (by squeezing their hand) when they talk. They expect a year of surgeries and recovery and are not sure exactly what to expect when all done but it is MUCH better than what they thought the first twenty four hours afterwards. |
