2016 Draft Boom/Bust Prediction Thread

This isn't meant to be the draft thread. This is just a place for you to go on the record with who you think will do better than his draft slot and who you think will do worse. We can come back in four years and see who got what right/wrong.

Be bold. Unlike the GMs actually making the picks, your job isn't on the line.

I'm avoiding QBs b/c the boom/bust potential is so high considering the nature of the position.

Out of non-QBs

BOOM:

Mackansie Alexander: Love his attitude. He's short. So what? He plays big.

Myles Jack: This is a prediction that his knee will hold up. He'll slip to the teens because of the injury concerns, and in four years, he'll be the best LB in the league.

Kevin Dodd: I don't see why Shaq Lawson is rated ahead of him.

Josh Doctson: The OBJ of this draft.

BUST:

A'Shawn Robinson: Takes plays off. Won't work in the NFL.

Laremy Tunsil: Has not been a great run for top-five LT talent.

Corey Coleman: If they still had that "NFL's Fastest Man" thing that Darryl Green won eleventy-billion times, he's be a lock for it. Don't know if he can play football, though.

BOOM:
Jalen Ramsey - I think even if he goes Top 5 he is under valued.

Bust:
Both QBs. I will probably look like an idiot here given my Cam take, but I'm betting neither start more than 5 games in 2018.

I'm with CU that Ramsey will be the best player in the draft. With an eye on being bold...

Booms:

Robert Nkemdiche: Just a feeling that he gets his shit together and keeps his brother far enough away to easily justify his draft position. Too talented, and some team in the back half lucks out here.

Will Fuller: Just love his game.

Leonte Carroo: I'll go homer and say he has a big career at the next level. Excellent route runner and was way way too productive for the shit QB play he dealt with. The character stuff is overblown.

Tyler Boyd: Similar to Carroo, affected by bad QB play in college. If he lands in the right situation could have an excellent career.

Davon Cajuste: As you can see, I think WRs are crazy deep in this draft.

Connor Cook: Will be the safest QB in the draft class. Think he could be a Matt Ryan type.

Busts:

Carson Wentz: Get outta here with this guy. Give me Paxton Lynch and a defender in the 1st any day of the week.

Joey Bosa: Think he'll be a quality player but I don't think he ends up being as productive as some of the other 1st round DLs.

I haven't spent any time looking deeply at others, but I'll disagree with Albion and say Corey Coleman pans out. His hands are very strong, reminds me of Michael Crabtree in that sense. Combined with that speed!

I'm also going to jump on the homer train with Logan and say that Tajae Sharpe will be a very good pick if he really does fall past the 3rd (or just gets bumped down by the insanely good WR class). Yes his hands are small, but great technique, very smooth, and he produced consistently despite terrible QB play at times and being the #1 option defenses keyed on. And it's not like he had a problem with drops at all in college.

Booms:

DeForest Buckner - best DL prospect in the draft IMO.

Jaded Goff - the only qb I like in this draft.

Zeke Elliott - should be a good, all around running back that's worth a top 15 pick.

Busts

Carson Wentz/Paxton Lynch - both have red flags. I wouldnt want my team taking either in the 1st round.

Laquon Treadwell - should be solid, but nothing about him screams top receiver in the draft for me.

Will Fuller - 10 drops last year and knows how to run 1 route.

I don't follow individual players (except Coastal Carolina of course ) enough to predict with any sense of accuracy, so I will just say one of the top 2 QB will bust one will boom. Just seems to be how QB's are in the draft. Given my small school love, I sure hope Wentz will be the boom (plus I don't want PilotMan to fly over and bomb my house if I say otherwise ) Goff's INT ratio concerns me as well.

If Cleveland was still in the top 2, I would predict whomever they pick will bust.

Bust
Robert Nkemdiche

Bust, depending upon expectations
Derrick Henry -- I see short term okay, long term fairly dim. Depends upon what you expect out of a RB whether that's okay or bust.

Moderate Lean Bust
Laremy Tunsil

Probable Boom
Leonard Floyd -- I hate to give credit to the guy given his alma mater but players exceeding college projections at the NFL level isn't unknown to UGA athletes

As a ND fan, I agree with your take, but was surprised you had him listed at a bust because I expected him to go in the third round at best. I then looked my first mock draft in years - people really project him as a mid-1st round pick?

I guess the WR crop is bad?

Spot on with all of these, although I think Tunsil will be serviceable, an average LT

Will also add

BOOM - Arky TE Henry Hunter
VT CB Kendall Fuller
Utah RB Devontae Booker - if Utah didnt wear him out
OU LB/DB Eric Striker

BUST - A&M OT Germain Ifhedi
tOSU WR Braxton Miller

I think Treadwell could be very good as a #2. If he were to get to Cincy's pick and line up opposite Green I think he'd rack up a ton of catches.

I really think that people are short selling Wentz' work ethic and brains. The kid never got a grade lower than an A. Never. I'd say he's likely to end up as the most successful North Dakotan QB in the history of the NFL. I know, he's the only one, but if Fitzpatrick is the yardstick I'll say Wentz passes it.

I can't find anything about Wright's injury being a lingering one. He played in the bowl game for Arizona and tore it up as if he had been playing all year. He's the next Zach Thomas in my eyes, and while that may not have the impact in today's NFL that it did during Thomas' best days, I think it will translate to a LB that consistently racks up top 10 tackle numbers and routinely makes big plays that help his team win.

His injury destroyed his athleticism, which was what made him so underrated at his position. I think he'll be a spot starter and special teams demon though

People say athleticism matters so much, but Burfict's athleticism has never been his strong suit. It's football IQ and awareness that make a LB great. When you combine that with elite athleticism I think you get a little more out of a guy, but I'll take a 4.9 40 with an almost prescient knowledge of the opponents tendencies over an athlete any day.

His athleticism made up for his size. He never was a great athlete but his it helped negate his size

I'm going to throw in my homer pick of Karl Joseph. His knee checked out at the combine and he'd be a top 15 pick without the injury.

I also think someone's getting a solid starter at LB in Nick Kwiatkoski somewhere around the 3rd round. He graded out in the top 10 against the run and in coverage among linebackers by PFF.

Agree with Lynch for sure, not a good Football IQ and I would have tabbed Nkemdiche too if he had gone about anywhere else but Arizona. Arians has already proven exceptional at turning players with suspect character around and I think this is about the best fit Nkemdiche could have landed in. We will see, but I am betting he becomes a solid NFL player under Arians.

Busts
Carson Wentz (Just a poor position for him to be in, that line hasnt blocked tradionally in 4 years, he has never faced top level competion and his first experience he will be learning a new system just like the rest of the team)
Corey Coleman (Baylor was all about winning 1 on 1 matchups so he never had to learn to run routes, in the NFL he is going to have a tough time winning these matchups plus he is short without a stable QB situation)
A-Shawn Robinson (With his size and the team he played on in college to slip like this is a serious red flag).
Jaboby Brissett (Cant even believe he could get drafted)
Christian Hackenberg (see above but this guy had decent WRs to throw to)
Alex Collins (Has never really developed into anything close to his potential, seems to be lacking something)
Shaq Lawson (I dont think he will be durable enough)

Curious what gives this impression. He's had 1 injury in his career, a separated shoulder, and played 6 games with it before having it surgically repaired

I was a massive negative on Lynch, but listening to a lot of analysis yesterday and a lot of people think he could be really, really good IF he's given time to develop. If he's starting day 1 or trying to rescue the Broncos season when Sanchez falters I think he's still a bust but if he's given time to learn an NFL offense and put into a situation where he can succeed, I'm actually wondering if he can't be the best QB of the 3.
