You mean like passing up Karl, and a staff he was going to put together that would have made everyone happy? Oh, and he was reportedly willing to coach for only $500k? That kind of a lot worse? TKM needs to be fucking fired. That bitch just made us the laughingstock of the country.

From a distance, I'm not getting the angst over not hiring a 62 year old coach that has never spent a day in the college ranks. Especially not one that has only won a playoff series one time in his last 13 seasons. {shrug} The situations at UNLV and GT may be similar -- in the sense of programs that have slipped from their previous heights -- and while I'm not ready to jump on the Pastner bandwagon (does GT have some rule about only hiring coaches that seem to be unlikable assholes?) I'd have taken him over Karl in a heartbeat.

Matt was wrong in his claims early as the amount Karl asked for was 2 million a year according to Anderson. I'm sure that Tina won't tell the real amount so it's up to Karl to leak that info. Isn't it a bigger embarrassment that the board of regent almost didn't approve beard's contract (it finally got settled on a 9-4 vote, yes 4 didn't approve the contract) and grilled him for 2 hours before the vote after thinking about it for 11 days before the vote. The board needs to be cleaned out before the AD since a coach can't talk about the job until they approve his contract. Do you really think Karl would have sat thru that shit? At least Tech owes UNLV a million still since UNLV owes UALR 200k for each of the next two seasons for hiring Beard. See, she made the school 600k! Plus look at all these player you don't have to watch next season... |

For the Mizzou fans, hope you all were able to watch the biography show about Norm Stewart tonight on the SEC Network. Norm and Jon Sundvold are the reasons that I'm a livelong Mizzou basketball fan. So many great memories from my childhood watching the show. I've also met Norm on several occasions and he's just as big a personality in person as he was when he patrolled the sidelines.
If you missed it, it will be repeating late tomorrow morning and also on Tuesday night. |

Interesting - Washington has hired Michael Porter Sr. to be an assistant to Lorenzo Romar. His son Michael Porter Jr. is a top-5 recruit in the 2017 class and had already been strongly considering the Huskies, and another son Jontay Porter (2018 class) is already committed. Hard to imagine that Michael Jr. doesn't also end up committing to Washington.
That would mark two straight classes where Romar has pulled a top-5 player from outside the state. |

He's built up a lot of capital with the folks that matter around UW basketball and his connections in the community - and his former players that swear by him - mean that he's safer here than a casual observer might think.
That said, I'm sure he and the administration are well aware of the huge frustration among hoops fans here at not making the Tourney for the last 5 seasons. He made mistakes in his recruiting strategy and execution, especially in 2012, and had some bad luck along the way too, but he's regrouped and recruiting is back on track and possibly better than ever. Obviously he's got to convert that into results on the court, but even with Murray and Chriss leaving early (questionable decisions, but whatever) the Huskies should be an NCAA team next year. It's a risky road he's heading down with Fultz and Porter Jr. almost certainly one-and-dones, but he should have enough seasoned talent around those guys in Crisp, Dime, Atewe, Timmins, Thybulle, Green and Dickerson to take advantage. |

Terrible news... Dayton Flyers rising sophomore center Steve McElvene collapsed and died at his family's home in Indiana this afternoon.
This is about 20 years after the collapse and sudden death of another center, 22 year old senior Chris Daniels, during the season. The A10's Most Improved Player award is named in his honor. His death coincided with my attendance at UD, and I remember the campus was devastated for weeks. Chris's little brother, Antonio, went to Bowling Green and had a long NBA career. He wore number 33 for many years in tribute to Chris. Hard to believe it has happened again. Feel awful for Big Steve's family.

G- 6'6" G-6'6" F-6"9" F-6'8" F-6'7" Nice size.

Its pretty standard Big 10/ACC matchups
Duke/UNC/hot ACC team du jour vs Michigan State/Indiana/Big 10 hot team du jour Draw from a hat mid-grade ACC/Draw from a hat mid-grade Big 10 Nebraska/Rutgers vs Miami/Clemson/BC (whichever team isn't excluded) It's all ratings anymore, matchups aren't really relevant to quality of the teams involved. |

Clemson has gotten Minnesota, Purdue, and Northwestern in the past. Just so we all know who the low grade B1G rotation is as well.

Texas picked up a late commitment from Jarrett Allen. He'll probably be a one and done.

Haven't had much to cheer about at Mizzou over the last couple of years. Happy they picked up a nice 4-star PG out of Texas for next year.
