Terrorist Attack in Istanbul

Sounds like 50 dead, over 100 wounded so far. That number likely to go up.

There are videos of one of the bombers detonating his vest in the airport. Really graphic stuff.

Looks to be a heavily coordinated attack. Similar to what we saw in Paris and Brussels.

Horrible. And probably not great that I'm supposed to go there in October. Area seems to be getting worse. Figured around Syria is stay-away territory, but now Istanbul is suffering. I know I read about a car bombing near a mosque a couple weeks ago too.

Syria needs help, they can't defeat ISIS unilaterally.

It's a very aggressive world we live in. We have to be realistic in what can be avoided and what can't. Maybe Hillary will confront this threat or make other nations confront it. But we can't just keep letting this pseudo nation state keep doing this to everybody. They need to be held accountable.

no shit (no offense intended).

There´s a another candidates besides ISIS here though, just for the record. The PKK/Kurdistan Workers Party (think IRA or ETA in the UK or Spain respectively) very much has the motivation and the wherewithal to pull this off.

Yeah, I've heard pretty definitively both that it was ISIS and that it was PKK.

Although it is seemingly a myth,

The murder rate in this country is lower than it has been since my lifetime has started

Staistically you're more likely to be shot by a cop than a terrorist.

Could have been even worse than it was. Saw a video where security shot one of them, and it looked like most people (if not everyone) in the area got clear before the terrorist could detonate his bomb.

Yup, pretty heroic work by that person. Saved countless lives.

Watching the video it seems unlikely the security guy got out in time.

We invest a lot of money to keep it that way too.

So here's what I don't get. If these attacks were performed by (or at least inspired by) Iran or another nation, we would be doing more. So why aren't we here? Is it war weariness, a belief that we are the root cause of these attacks, or does our leadership believe that the use of drones is more effective?

I'm not quite that cynical, but I've heard others say they think that since of part of Obama's legacy is ending the wars, he will do his best to leave this mess to the next president.

Looks like he was seriously injured but survived. Still in the hospital and none of his injuries are life-threatening.

And that's the benefit of having the good guys armed. He saved some lives, likely dozens more lived because somebody was there to change the outcome.

I don't think anyone is talking about disarming cops...

Are you arguing that airports should allow people to bring their guns?
