Quick Band Poll
This is a layup to me, but I got into a silly argument today and was stunned that I wasn't in the majority.

I am, unfortunately, completely ignorant of Rage; they're on my to-do list, but with audio books dominating my commute I find less time to devote to music that I am not learning to play myself.

Not judging, but you are only a year+ younger than me. How did you miss them when they were on the radio? They were pretty hard to miss from 1993 to 1997. |

Bush only really had one hit album, nothing else they ever did came close to it. RATM at least had a little more staying power and a far more unique sound. They were more innovative too. Pretty easy choice for me.

My dad was a musician (edit: still is, as he's the drummer in my band ), and I rebelled pretty hard against most things musical until I was about 16 - as in my only radio play until then was Baseball games. So I almost completely missed the window. Then once I started paying attention, I was all Matchbox 20/Third Eye Blind pop rock. My bad, I know. Last edited by Vince, Pt. I would be interested to see how Audioslave would have fared compared to RATM. Chris Cornell is one of my favourite vocalists of all time and from a personal preference, I think I would list them ahead of RATM.
With that said, you can't discount how influential RATM has been, both from the perspective of being the fore-bearers of rap metal (and in turn paving the way for the Linkin Park, Korn, and Limp Bizkit among others) as well as re-integrating political messages back into main stream music (beyond just the hip hop scene). At the same time, I understand that these are two reasons why many people may in fact dislike RATM. |
