What is your favorite Cheeseburger?
What is your favorite cheeseburger? This poll is a result of the news that Whataburger was sold to a Chicago investment firm and will be taken nationwide.

I've had 5 Guys, Red Robin (not cheeseburger though), Smash Burgers, Taco Mac and typical fast food joints.
I like Taco Mac "original" burgers w/cheese because when I go, its as a family and also its not near as messy to eat. I think 5 Guys is the best flavor (and can't beat the free peanuts) but its the greasiest. |

Gotta go with my town...... The first Culver’s opened in an old A&W back in 1984. Well into the 90s, my parents and others still called it the ‘root beer stand’.
In-and-Out is probably the one listed that gives Culver’s a run for its money for me. |

Red Robin is fantastic. And 5 Guys is a close second. Neither are listed.
Hardees and Carls Jr. are the same company.

Too many choices. I see it now. But no Red Robin

I'm just going to drop in real quick and start an argument by saying that In N Out is the single most overrated and disappointing burger experience I've ever had.

Best burger I ever had was this little Greek hole in the wall in Princeton, NJ. Don't remember the name of it - the restaurant part was actually secondary to the convenience store business, but amazing food.
Second would probably be Gordon Ramsay Burgr here in Vegas. I'm normally a guy who just likes plain hamburgers or plain with crisp bacon. Their burgers are so phenomenal, I get the stuff on them. Third is probably Wes's in Fayetteville, AR. Gained a lot of weight my first year at UArk and Wes's bacon burgers were a big reason. Cheap, within walking distance of where I lived of campus, and one of the few delicious things in that food-deprived college town.

From that list I'd go Five Guys, with Steak Shack a close second (though honestly you know what was the best part when I finally had Steak Shack? The shake! Who could have guessed?)
If Charlotte is known for anything food wise (other than inventing Pimento cheese I guess) it has a pretty good burger scene. Bad Daddy's & Pinky's (if you want that old school, grease loaded feel) are probably the two biggest names. Depending on how much you want to stretch the definition of a burger I've had some that are closer to rodeo burger's and toss brisket or even pulled pork in the ground beef mix & those can be absolutely amazing. |

I don't even know for sure how to define favorite out of a list like this.
But I'll answer based on the premise of "if you told me I could only ever have cheeseburger from ONE of them again in my lifetime", I'd pick Krystal. Consistent, and perfect when the mood for them. Nearly unheard of to get a disappointing Krystal (as long as the location isn't a complete wreck) if they're fresh & hot.

I've found good ones but they're scarce these days. And the plan to convert all corporate stores into franchise locations will only make matters worse, the dregs of SnS locations are always franchise ones. (similar to Hardee's in that regard)

I think it's both under and overrated at the same time. It's not good enough to endure a wait of over 15 minutes for one. But I think most of the hate is because it's talked about as being the best, so often. |

I've been to the States a bunch of times and haven't tried all the above list, but the best burger I've had is either a breakfast burger from LAX at Umami (might just be my memory - I was incredibly hung over at the time), or the Spicy Poblano Smash Burger I had at a BoomerJack's Grill and Bar in South Arlington a few weeks ago.

Last time we went to LA we had a whole heap of people say we had to try it, so we ended up walking about 40 mins from our hotel to try it, and I thought it was just ok. Definitely not good enough for an 80 minute round trip on foot... We have a knock-off burger joint in Sydney called Down N Out that started as just an imitation but within a few months blew it out of the water. Outside of the usual In N Out style menu, they do one-off special burgers every week and it's grown a real cult following around the greater Sydney area - and given how many gourmet burger places have blown up in Sydney, that's saying something. Some of the burgers are better than the others, but it's my go-to burger place whenever I'm in the mood.

I surprised myself and said Jack In The Box because the burger I keep coming back to and love is the Ultimate Cheeseburger.
That said, I have love for burgers from many of these places.

I hate Steak and Shake and refuse to eat there.
Other than that I agree with Chief and would go to most on the list.

I enjoy almost any burger. Burger King whopper when I'm hung over or a quarter pounder from McDees, Wendy's is good but we don't have one in our area, Hardee's frisco burger, Jack in the box frisco jack, the list goes on.
We have a bar in our area who also has an amazing frisco burger. |

Speaking of Hardee's, their "Happy Hour" promotion (check your local for times) is a pretty solid bang for the buck. For several months now it's been the double slider for $1 (regular price is $2), and here that's been the deal from 4p-closing.

Yup the Carls (Hardees West Coast) has the same deal although I don't always see it advertised, making me wonder if it comes and goes.

I can definitely admit that this was a big part of my disappointment. My last trip out west I learned that Carls Jr had a guacamole bacon burger that Hardees does not (or at least did not at the time) and that ended up being my favorite fast food item that I don't have access to where I live currently. |

I think it's "supposed to" come & go, but around here there's so little business for the local Hardees (we have two) after breakfast hours that they pretty much kept it running TFN I think. I don't believe I've ever seen more than 2 other customers there at a time after 11a.

If I'm going through a Drive-Thru, nothing beats a Hardee's Frisco Burger (although Burger King has a similar one a couple months ago).
If I'm sitting down to eat, it's Five Guys
