Equifax Settlement - Get your $125

Equifax settled with the government.

Equifax Data Breach Settlement | Federal Trade Commission

If you were impacted (you probably were), then you can get $125 from this settlement. To see if you were impacted, check here.

Check Your Eligibility

Pretty easy and straightforward. Make sure those fucks pay up.

It seems like the dilution point might be around 3million claims. Also not sure how thoroughly they would check the self reported time spent remedying it claims of up to 25hours at 20$/hr. Hopefully one of those big mommy blogs doesn’t push it hard as it grows to a close.

Yeah, I had some identity fraud stuff involving Avis Rent a Car last August/September. I'm not sure how I'd even tell if that was due to this breach, but I gave them the USAA case number & put in for 10 hours. Probably spent at least that much time dealing with the supremely unhelpful Avis side of things.

Hmm... the free credit monitoring for 4 years or so may be more worthwhile than up to $125, I think.

To answer my question, apparently Credit Karma is free and good (though obv not as good as the paid ones) and not a scam. And then you can tell the site that you do have credit monitoring as it makes you affirm.

Same! Though my guess is instead of $125 it will be like $7.25 after attorney fees etc...

I went back and checked again. I have an apostrophe in my last name. Whoch causes a lot of issues when doing things online. So I checked again without the apostrophe.

BINGO

Me and my wife both qualify. Woot.

EDIT: F THE MAN!!!

I got one of those apostrophes too. It's not like it's all that rare, you'd think that by now that collective technology would have adjusted to the concept and it would be relatively remarkable to have a web-page puke when you try to enter a name with an apostrophe......it's not.

Long story short: only $31m of the $700m settlement is actually going to the whole "$125 check" program. So if just 248,000 people sign up, they'll get the full amount. If 1,000,000 sign up, they're getting $31 each. And if everyone who was actually affected signed up - all 147 million of them - it would be 21 cents.

Anyone who claims they already have received a check is full of shit.

I assume every name I don't recognize is some long-ago banned poster under a new identity.

And old poster setup an unsuccessful sports website called Sportdigs. Every thread here he'd come in and say that the topic being discussed was already covered by Sportdigs weeks ago. Remarkably, I don't think it helped his web traffic.

Apparently I was given bad information ,when my son in law said he got his $125.00 check, what he meant was that he was eligible.
So yes, he is full of shit.
