The Beer Thread
I’ve been drinking IPAs or DIPAs all evening, but just had an ender sour that is so good I thought I’d add it to the beer thread...
As there isn’t one, here’s the starter- if you can get Tafa Tafa form Gipsy Hill Brewery (London) in the States, it is an amazing drink http://gipsyhillbrew.com/product/tafa-tafa

Everyone has their own flavour palette. And, yes, if there was a drinking contest (which is not the point), you would have an advantage

So I drink mostly Miller Lite as stated above, because I can put down 15 in a night easily. I also like Stella and mexican beers. good friends of ours own a brewery and I will drink their beers often as well.

This is my go to sour.
Its not for everyone. Duchesse De Bourgogne Its got that tart and dry finish with just the right amount of carbonation. A real treat. Only found it once on tap in the States. Delicious. Mostly only available in 750ml so no six pack which deters most domestic muricans. Also not on the cheap but its so worth it. Highly recommend if you wanna expand your horizons.. Thanks for that - love sours, so will have to make a mental note of that one.
My go to COVID brewery has become a small local one here in LA: Common Space - they will deliver anywhere in LA one day a week and anywhere in CA for an additional fee. For somebody who prefers lagers and not as hoppy beers their stuff is always very good. Tried a good number of other CA breweries but haven't found one I've enjoyed more yet. They do a number of perfectly decent kettle sours when available that I enjoy. I took up homebrewing early on in COVID, and it's taken a back seat with some other shit I've got going on the last month or so, but it's a pretty fun hobby. Definitely don't recommend doing large batches in case they suck (especially at the start), but it's a good way for me to brew styles that I don't get over here in the US and be productive and get out from in front of the computer for an evening. I love Wheat beers. Shock Top over Blue Moon. I can't stand IPA's. My favorite beer right now is definitely Guinness Stout.

I actually managed to pull a hamstring last time I tried homebrewing. Don't lift a full carboy with your weight all on one leg. Brewing was too much cleaning for me though. I'll stick to drinking.

Heh, that's definitely another reason to do smaller batches. With a 3 gallon batch everything is a lot easier to move around and I get get a full 24 bottles, which takes me long enough to drink (and don't get quite as much heartache if it's not good and I end up tossing most of it)

My vacations are pretty much planned around visiting breweries. Hoping I'll be able to hit Stone Brewing's 25th anniversary party this summer.

I can opine on Midwestern craft brewing as needed. Nothing remarkable to contribute ATM, though!

I'm also a fan of wheat beers. My current favorite is Franziskaner.
More locally, I would drink Mango Cart by Golden Road.

I tell you what I loved and haven't been able to find in this back-water I live in: Sam Adams Blackberry Witbier. That stuff was super good.

I've become a huge Sour fan in the last few years. One of my favorites is by 10 Barrel out of Oregon. Called Crush, it's a Cucumber Sour. Super refreshing, not too tart.
I also recently found Vice by Wild Barrel Brewing out of San Marcos, CA. It's a Montmorency Cherry sour. Super tart, but extremely good. |

Jester King makes a ton of great sours. All of them spontaneously fermented with wild yeast.

I'm just excited to learn Guinness is coming out with an alcohol free beer. I had to stop drinking because my medications are already hard on my liver, but given how much I loved Guinness back when I was drinking, I figure I'll give this one a shot.

I'm not much of a beer guy anymore but I go with the low carb/calorie beers once in a while (other than when I had a craving for a dry beer earlier this year) like Michelob Ultra.
I read a while ago that scientists/archeologists were able to recreate a "beer" from ancient times by analyzing residue from clay pottery (or whatever). I've always thought that would be cool to try. |

Some favorites:
Founder's Breakfast Stout Tank Seven Grapefruit Sculpin Speedway Stout Midas Touch (wine/beer hybrid) Dogfish Head 120 minute IPA Lots of others I can't remember now. There is a local brewery that makes something called New Albion Ale. Unfortunately, it sucks. |

I've slowed down on my craft beer drinking during the pandemic...but being on the NH/VT border makes it entirely too easy to hop over to the Green Mountain State for some of the best around:
Lawson's Sip of Sunshine (my personal go-to) All of Hill Farmstead's offerings Alchemist's Heady Topper and Focal Banger Funny enough, Miller Lite is my go-to social beer as well. |

You play into a fear of mine. I want to really sample lots of beers and fine one I love, but I am afraid the second I find one it will disappear. That seems to happen to me all the time (find something a love at the store, buy it like crazy, then it is gone).

Craft beers can be difficult for that very reason. One of my favorite beers of all time was called Enlightenmint, and it was a chocolate mint porter by Twisted Manzanita. They discontinued it a few years back and I was devastated.
Glad to see some other Cucumber Sour fans here! Quote:
Some great stuff in here. Founder's is such a great brewery; the Breakfast Stout is my favorite, but their Session IPA (called "All Day") is excellent as well. Dogfish Head is also fantastic. I'm sorta back and forth on the Grapefruit Sculpin. If I'm in the mood, it's amazing. If not, I don't even want to think about it. Last edited by Vince, Pt. II : 12-10-2020 at 05:56 PM. |

Another recommendation is Victory Brewing company Sour Monkey. A 9.5% abv beer that tastes amazing! Best sour I've had.

I love northwest IPAs, the hoppier the better, but our grocery shelves are currently being overrun by the hazy "New England IPAs", which I don't care for.
The gas station down the street from me has a deal if you by 3 single serve beers. When I need a real distraction/break from 2020, I get the hoppy trilogy of terror from Ninkasi brewery - Tricerahops, Megalodom, and Velocihoptor. That's a good way to reset. Boise has become an incredible brewery town. 15 Breweries, and grocery store access to all the regional stuff from Seattle and Portland and Eugene. We have a brewery downtown that specializes in sours, and it is awesome - Barbarian Brewing, they have some very unique stuff. We have a 10 Barrell too.
