Another change at Offensive Coordinator for us heading into 2006. I wasn't planning on making any moves but Tommy Falls announced his retirement immediately following the season. He had been dealing with some health issues late in the year.
In his place we've brought on 31 year old Deron Brennan. Coach Brennan spent the last 3 years as the quarterbacks coach at Army so we were happy to steal him away. Prior to that he was at Ball State where he was a former MAC Recruiter of the Year and Illinois as a graduate assistant. He has great X's and O's knowledge, keeps his guys healthy and is still very young so we're confident he will only get better. |

Got me itching to play TCY again. The game doesn't appear to de-license, so I have exhausted my installations, it seems. So, for now... will maybe fire up... Bound Bound College Football? (ugh)

Week 1 thoughts....
You go into every new season with high hopes and so it's obviously disappointing when you play poorly in a first game. We got the ball run down our throats. It was a bad performance by what should be our strongest unit this year. Andrew White had the only TFL in the front 4 and he played just 3 snaps against the run. Air Force ran the ball right behind their center 17 times for 127 yards. That falls directly on Vinny Houck and Ethan Clemons. That is bad news for two guys that have talented sophomores behind them. We ran the ball well early and Dixon Horner outperformed Mike Hicks by a lot in this one. Hicks averaged 3.5 ypc. Our young offensive line was a bright spot. Michael Coggins, in particular, went 5 for 8 in KRO and Jumbo Tubbs went 2 for 3. Quentin Bush still hasn't made the jump to reliable starter. His receivers dropped no passes and he didn't face much pressure but he still completed under 50% of his passes. We can't win consistently until he's capable of leading us to victories.In Week 2 we travel on the road to face McAllen. They didn't play Week 1. |

Week 2 thoughts...
Good win but one we're expecting to win fairly easily at this point. We dominated on the ground as we usually do in wins. Dixon Horner added 98 yards and 3 TD to Mike Hicks' fine performance. All of our TD's were on the ground. The offensive line play was fantastic. Michael Coggins led the way again, going 6 for 10 in KRO's but the whole unit was very strong. Nolan Ramsey continues to be a difference maker at FB as he had 5 catches for 68 yards in this game and went 4 for 8 in KRO's. Talk about an all around player. Alonzo Barnes struggled in coverage, allowing 4 catches. For the first time, his job is not totally safe this seasons so it will be interesting to watch. Irving Nelson, Vinny Houck and Troy Manning (2) all had sacks in this game. Rufus Ingersoll added two hurries. Week 3 sees us hosting the Temple Owls at home. They are 0-1 after a blowout loss to Michigan State. |
