Doing some hiring.

Gmail still dominates.

Indeed [Rational_Interpretation_Of_Name]@gmail.com is pretty much the standard.

Of course, applicants for law jobs are going to be a bit better at that, I'd expect.

But I think that the days of [email protected] applying for jobs are over.

This was something of a fringe conversation when it came up here years ago. Much less so now.

Even just the carrier still is an element in what you show the world, and what you decide to show the world is a fair reflection of who you are, for hiring purposes.

5 of 5 recent hires had the [Rational_Interpretation_Of_Name]@gmail.com structure of personal email, and one strong candidate used their current job workplace email address as their resume/interview contact and that itself felt like a red flag for less than ideal judgment.

My son registered my work laptop Win10 OS to his personal email address this summer, this is going to be nice to explain to IT when we go back to the office

I had to email a bunch of older members of our church about a fundraising thing.

Turns out that among a certain age group, there's still a lot of @bellsouth.net and similar such emails floating round out there.

I'm always shocked by the number of bellsouth and aol.com emails I get from customers.

My 45 year old BIL never made the switch and still has aol.com email. There probably is a sweet spot timewise in switching, and at some point it becomes too burdensome with so much stuff linked to email accounts now.4

Then again, he also doesn't understand why anyone would use paypal. And I don't mean that in a "when they could use venmo or zelle instead" kind of a way...

I made the switch from hotmail to Gmail back in early 2011 or so. It wasn't that painful at all.

My 79 year old dad still uses aol.

12 years ago I was rocking a Nokia. Maybe a Blackberry. I'm not saying, but I'm just saying.

Bills, infrequent service providers, estate planning lawyers, kids' schools / activities, etc. The older ya get, the harder it gets to switch unless willing to do dual emails for a year or two to ensure capturing all the changes.

I think I switched from a Blackberry to an iPhone around 2009 or 2010 maybe?

I never once looked back!

Same, but I also have the gmail handle too, so I can go either way. My yahoo is still my primary though.

I abandoned the email providers who harvest your data blatantly (like Gmail and Yahoo!). I kept my Hotmail account as my spam email address, then I have my real accounts through Fastmail and Protonmail.

Not at all surprised. But hell, I still have my mindspring email account (which is now roughly 25 years old) -- not earthlink mind you, but actual mindspring --

Still my very first email account.
