Sam's is selling a 85" for $800. Not really interested right now. No Sam's membership.
But this foreshadows BF. Have to believe there'll be more 85" options this year for around this budget price. Wouldn't mind picking up a 85" for the basement (while waiting for that 98"). Quote:

First time in a long time where I've felt like upgrading my 2017 Model S. My car has unlimited supercharging and FSD which I would lose both of those perks if I upgraded. There is zero chance I would spend the $15,000 on FSD nowadays, but being able to transfer it from my old to the new is a big deal on top of these price cuts. I'll probably keep my car for at least a couple more years, but I am actually tempted to go down that path now. Interest rates put a damper on a purchase as well. |

It's that time of year again. Anything special you guys are looking at?
My main target is a couple gym mirrors for the basement. Also, a nice to have cheap, big screen 75/85" for basement/home gym. Currently have a pretty old 65" downstairs so not a must have. Maybe pickup some 4k blu-rays for my collection. |

Make $900.
If you have $15,000 lying around in a traditional bank, making little interest; and have a $500 monthly direct deposit, you can make $900 in 3 months. Basically, Chase bank is offering $900 if you open a checking & savings account at the same time. You need to keep the $15k in savings for 3 months. Offer expires 4/17. OPEN YOUR CHASE ACCOUNT TODAY | CHASE This seems specifically geared for me. I am in the process of moving from Wells Fargo to Capital One 360. We may take a side detour and use Chase Bank for 3 months, collect the $900, and then move to 360. Wife and I will split it 50-50 and it'll help buy my dive computer (or next laptop)! We won't stay at Chase because their interest rates sucks like Wells Fargo. But can't beat $900 for 3 months and a little paperwork. Last edited by Edward64 : 01-27-2024 at 09:00 AM. |

I was at Costco this morning.
There were numerous 85"+ TVs. I'm guessing it'll be the new standard soon, superseding the 65" and 75". I was going to buy some more ribs but unfortunately it was a 20 min wait. So just got the rotisserie chicken instead. Last edited by Edward64 : 03-17-2024 at 04:55 PM. |

Excited about the new Garmin Fenix 8 models coming out tomorrow. There is new scuba/dive functionality (which was only available in their dedicated diving model Mk3 series). I’m getting serious about scuba and need a backup that is an everyday wear also.
Garmin Fenix 8 video leak fuels excitement ahead of launch For runners, some decent Garmin Forerunner sales right now. See slickdeals.net below File Not Found - Slickdeals.net Unfortunately, prob around $1-$1.2k |

Not going to get one this year, but I've noticed some OLEDs 75", 85" at around to $1,600 - $2,500. From what I've seen at Costco/BestBuy, OLEDs images are really, really great.
Anyone here have one? As good as I think they are? Wish list for the family this year ... 1) Roomba or like. Probably 2, one for the basement also 2) Solar generator 3) Husqvarna Automower or like. I saw a lot of these in Norway, and I mean a lot. Everyone I spoke to was happy with theirs. Probably Spring, need to do more research |

Burn in is largely a thing of the past due to advancements in the tech. A gaming monitor will probably end up with burn in eventually if you don't take certain measures (black background, hide taskbar), but as long as your content is varied (no talking heads all day) it will take a long time before it's an issue on a newer television.

Are the lower priced OLED TVs close to the higher priced ones? I saw some fairly cheap and didn't know if it was "fake OLED" or something. I know jack squat about TVs.

Greentoe.com is the cheapest way to buy these TVs. Used it 3 years ago to get a great deal on a 83" A90J. I love seeing all these 98"+ TVs becoming affordable as it should only help when it comes to large format OLEDs becoming more affordable.

Heh, I also got the same TV on greentoe. Thankfully, I've never had issues getting large TVs online. I don't know how you'd box and send these things back if you ran into an issue. But definitely cheaper than Best Buy plus taxes

Wife and I are seriously thinking about below as a Christmas present to ourselves. The Gordon Ramsey "hexclad" is too pricey and this Henckel generic pricing is more palatable.
https://www.costco.com/henckels-para...000209381.html I've read the reviews and know the "hex" is not as good as teflon but still pretty decent. The big ding is not able to cook eggs without oil/butter and that's not a real issue with me. My question is - does anyone have one of these? Other than cooking eggs, any issues with it? Durability, cleaning etc. concerns? Last edited by Edward64 : 11-08-2024 at 01:13 PM. |

Hex style are prone to peeling/flaking from what I understand. I have some non-stick from a Danish company called Scanpan that I swear by, which uses a proprietary coating, but they're about 2-3 times as expensive as those Costco pans (even on sale, which they usually are). Lifetime warranty, for whatever that is worth.

Basic iPad 10th gen, 64GB memory is on sale for $250 (from $350).
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BJLXMVMV...DKIKX0DER&th=1 It's the most recent gen for the basic iPad but is from 2022. There's probably a new model coming out next year but decent enough for kids or someone that just wants an iPad to browse & stream content. |

FWIW, we got the Costco Henckel's hexclad for $80. We've used it a couple times and no surprises ... do have to use oil/butter for the eggs, but for everything else, pretty non-stick and easy to wash.
But we've been here before, the real test is how long the hex non-stick last vs teflon coat which wears out in 6+ months. Also, because of Trump escalating the tariff talk, thinking about accelerating my timeline for a basement 98-100" TV. Lots of deals out there. For 98-100", the 2 decent deals so far are $1,600 (Costco) and $2,000 (BB). Supposedly BB is noticeably better but can't beat the Costco return/warranty. Still a little pricey, so may have to drop down to 85". TCL 98" QM7 Series 4K QLED Mini-LED Smart TV + Free Installation @ Best Buy $1999.99 100" Hisense QD7 QLED 144Hz 4K Dolby Vision Google TV (2024) $1600 + Free Shipping |

Thanks for that spreadsheet, Edward, that's pretty cool!
I'm looking to get a computer to run Civ 7 when it comes out. Here are the "ultra" requirements: Civilization 7 system requirements Row 0 - Cell 0 Minimum Recommended Ultra Graphics preset Low Medium High Resolution 1080p 1080p 4K FPS 30 fps 60 fps 60 fps CPU Intel Core i3 10100 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200 Intel Core i5 10400 / AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Intel Core i7 14700F / AMD Ryzen 9 5950X Memory 8 GB RAM 16 GB RAM 32 GB RAM Storage 20 GB 20 GB 20 GB Operating system Windows 10 / 11 64-bit Windows 10 / 11 64-bit Windows 10 / 11 64-bit DirectX Version 12 Version 12 Version 12 I'd like to shoot for the "ultra" but when it comes down to it, I'm a cheapo. But I'm looking at an i7 or AMD Ryzen 9, 32 GB RAM, plus another site said NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 or AMD Ryzen RX 7800 XT. I guess that's great if I find things with exactly those words, but if anything is different, I'm not sure if what I'm seeing is better or worse. Here's what I'm seeing: https://www.microcenter.com/product/...tion-luna-grey $1400, i7 processor, 32GB RAM, NVIDIA 4070. Seems to fit the bill. https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-ThinkB...94&sr=8-4&th=1 $800, so way cheaper, and 40GB RAM instead of 32. Also an i7, but I can't tell if it's got NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 or its AMD equivalent. And if it doesn't, I'm not sure if the extra 8GB of RAM makes up for that or what. I dunno, that's a lot of detail that probably detracts from my main question: "I want black friday laptop run civ 7 good, what get?" |

That cheap Amazon laptop has this "Integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics functions as UHD Graphics " So definitely not a 4070.
That said, I would recommend a Lenovo but a Lenovo legion machine. Get a Rakuten account, order through there, youll get 10% back and you'll get a solid laptop at $1200-1300 through the Lenovo website. The Legion screen is amazing, life altering and worth every penny - Display 16" WQXGA (2560 x 1600), IPS, Anti-Glare, Non-Touch, 100%sRGB, 300 nits, 165Hz, Narrow Bezel, Low Blue Light |

I have a Thinkpad X13 Gen 4 with Ryzen 7840U, 32GB connected to a 27" monitor and it runs Civ 6 fine. This is an integrated 780M GPU but it's pretty powerful and equivalent to discrete 1060. I play on max size/length games and there is a noticeable slowdown in the modern age but not unbearably so. I'm pretty sure this will run Civ 7 albeit probably more slowly than Civ 6. But the 7840U and 780M are still very capable. See xls link below for Lenovo inventory of Used/New older models. Filter on Model = Thinkpad and Memory = 32GB and you'll find a Used X13 7840U for $748. Don't be put off with Used laptops. These are refurbished by Lenovo and still have a 12 month warranty. There are Legion gaming laptops for sale also, but I don't have any experience with them. Personally, a $748 is pretty decent deal for the X13. Bonus is Thinkpad sales are pretty decent on eBay so after 2 years, you can probably re-sell it on eBay for $250-$300 (source: me) logaze - watching laptops on Lenovo outlet If you want more performance and future proofing, then suggest a desktop. I've bought components and put together my own desktops. Sure, that will save some $ but I'm willing to pay for convenience. If not looking for top-end components, I'd go with a Dell XPS as a reasonable compromise on cost & performance. Dell changes sales & configuration all the time. But this is the right time to look for deals. Suggest you check slickdeals.net (search "dell xps desktop") everyday to see if something pops up. Thanks! My first link was a Lenovo legion. Is 10% off Lenovo always the case with Rakuten? We have an account, but my wife has the login, so I wasn't able to check. I'm assuming "integrated" is something meaning basic, i.e. there's no fancy video card, is that right? Does it make that much of a difference for a game like Civ? My thinking is that it's probably more important for first-person-shooter games with a lot of graphics that move fast, but I've heard that sometimes more processing work can get moved to the video card, so I dunno, maybe it helps for everything. |

Civ seems like a game that would work with an integrated GPU, but I wouldn't go against the minimum system requirements. Make sure you get something with at least 16GB of system memory (RAM). I don't think 8GB is good enough for Windows and gaming anymore.

It sounds like Ramzavail has real-life experience with Legions, so I would probably go down that route. I would make sure whatever you buy has a good no-hassle return policy in case you don't like the keyboard, touchpad, or anything else specific to laptops. I've had some gaming laptops in the past where I couldn't stand using the touchpad.
I would go with Computer A. That mobile 4070 should work good. |

Now that I've typed this all out, Computer D is looking like it stands out. It hits all the "ultra" requirements, except a 4060 instead of a 4070. That seems like a small difference for all I know. Micro Center also has an Open Box version for $650. It's the only HP in a group that's all Lenovo -- is there any reason to be worried about that? Or something else I'm not realizing about it that makes it worse than the others?

4060 is probably good enough, but as Edward mentioned you aren't going to be able to upgrade in the future without replacing the entire laptop. A desktop would allow you to do that. I would go a bit beyond what I need so it would last me for a few years.
