Linda Perry needs to stick with writing songs for other people that I'll never hear.

I swear, just asking a person to get up an hour earlier than usual day by dat is the most difficult thing you could ever ask of a person.

Wait.

Day by day, as in 8a Monday, 7a Tues, 6a Wed ... to whenever that ends?

or day after day, like going from 6a to 5a for a week (or whatever)?

My across the street neighbor just showed up at our door in her nightgown saying her fiance attacked her and took her phone. The police are here now, so 6 in 1 I'm shot by the police or the fiance tonight. If I don't post by morning, long live the Giant Squid.

Honestly what will happen is she will drop any charges or restraining orders and say it was all just a misunderstanding. Fiancé will be nice to you because he doesn’t want anyone to know he beats her. I have seen it with my sister.

Or she will turn on you. Just had this happen in my life but not to me personally where a perennially abused woman who is constantly helped by other females when she is in need turned on them when they brought it up and went so far as to physically attack two of them. It was wild.

Oh yeah. They always defend the abuser. I remember a couple years ago my nephew called me because my sister was getting thrown around by her boyfriend. I go there and my wife calls the police on the way. Long story short she doesn’t pursue a restraining order and takes the guy back. I told my nephew next time call the police. I can’t trust that this guy, who is smaller and older than me, wouldn’t attack me and when I defended myself claiming I attacked him and my sister would side with him. I have too much to lose.

Should have updated last night, but I crashed after she was finally able to leave. The police showed up and arrested the guy. He admitted to them that he shoved her in-front of their kids, so she couldn't refuse to press charges. Now my worry is him retaliating for me calling the police. He has always been a nice guy to me, and we have helped each other with things in the past. I didn't have much choice but to call the police once she showed up. The last thing I needed was for him to attack me or my family to get to her or the like. The very last thing I want to be in the middle of is a domestic dispute.

Yikes, just reading about this now. Sorry you're in the middle. Super awkward at best, a potential constant worry now at worst.

My experiences with my sisters boyfriends are that the guy will leave you alone, and I wouldn't be surprised if he actually thanks you for taking care of her.

I understand that B&Bs and boutique hotels want to stay small and charming--kind of an escape from the hustle and bustle.

But if I can't check prices and make reservations on your website in 2025, that is a bridge too far. I'm just looking somewhere else.

Are conjoined twins considered 1 person for legal reasons. What happens if one is sentenced to jail time?

When this thought popped in my head, why is that this is the place, after all these years, that I went to to pose my query?

Short answer is: nobody is really sure.

They are generally separate entities (separate SSNs, sometimes separate drivers license, etc) but there's no real precedent for handling punishment of crimes, at least not serious ones.

You aren't the first to wonder, as this article from 2010 illustrates

Totally agree. Asking someone to call for pricing and/or to make a reservation tells.me (a) you really don't want my business and (b) i probably can't afford it!

Is there ever a reason to tuck in a flannel?

Is it the modern equivalent to socks with sandals? This question has been plaguing me all night.

I think it's OK to tuck in flannel if you're operating a chain saw or other heavy machinery.

I've lived in my current house for over three years now and USPS keeps on delivering mail addressed to one of the previous owners. Isn't anything after a year supposed to be returned to sender? I've started just letting it pile up in my mailbox, although it's not much (4-5 envelopes) and after a couple of weeks I don't think my point is coming across

edit: okay, lazy sov loooked this up -- https://faq.usps.com/s/article/How-i...n_misdelivered

This is one thing I will miss about Switzerland. If the owners name isn't on the mailbox they won't deliver it and once you deregister from the canton and give a new address you automatically will get mail redirected to your new address for up to a year, and the post office will notify businesses of your change of address. Oh, did I mention that if you put a "no adverts/spam" sticker on your mailbox they legally are not allowed to deliver it to you?

Obviously never something that would work in the US for a million valid and less valid reasons, but we found it awesome. We lived in 2 apartments and didn't get a piece of spam or a piece of mail addressed to somebody else delivered for 2.5 years.

I didn't know you were in Switzerland. My oldest and his family live in Schaffhausen.

Yeah, we were there for 2 and a half years and just moved back to the east coast at the start of the year. Beautiful country and incredibly efficient and clean, but we found the culture challenging.

I would occasionally take the train to Schaffhausen to get to work if I was stopping at Zurich HB for any reason, but we never visited.

I added one into our new house.too. A couple trips to Tokyo will spoil you. Totally think that this needs to be the one thing that every house needs. I'm considering adding a bidet to other toilets, but we have time on that. Cannot wait until I get to use the one that I picked though.

Most definitely most or all of those things were us not Switzerland, we know tons of Americans who loved it there and some who have stayed forever. But equally we were very ready to get back to an English speaking country and culture.

I just got the previous owner's W2 in the mail. We will have lived in this house 5 years come February.

The thing is, he "works" for his mother and she owned the house immediately before "selling" it to him. So they know he doesn't live here... But we continue to get it every year.

Of all the damn things to happen the furnace is acting up. Woke up to it being 62, cleaned everything on the furnace that I safely can, kicked the breaker for 15 minutes to reset everything and it still wouldn't kick on. Borrowed some space heaters while the temp dropped to 59 in the house and then for whatever reason it kicked on when I tried it again....but ofcourse I have my aftermarket air filter apart. Think I'm just going to roll with it apart and see what happens until I can get someone that knows more about them then me. I was told a Trane should last more than 7 years without trouble. Guess pretty much everything new is junk. The one that was in there before this was 37 years old before it failed.

13 years ago my Maytag dryer had an issue that needed repair. The service man came and told me I was lucky, my dryer was made in the last year they were still produced in Newton, Iowa. If it had been made a year later it would not be fixable and I would need a new machine. He tore down the machine and had it up and running in about a half an hour. I don't recall the cost but less than a $100 including the service call charge.

That dryer is still running today and there has not been another service call in those 13 years.

Friend's daughter sends me a fundraiser for her marching band. I gave last year, so I was going to again this year as well. Open up the link, and first suggested amount: $100. That to me is a big amount. I thought $20 was going to generous. Went to put that amount in, will not accept less than $25.

I'm shocked. Heck, we used to be happy if people bought $20 dollars worth of oranges for my daughter's band fund-raisers. I'm trying to give you $20 for nothing in return, and they are like "no thanks, cheapskate."
