She failed simple math when it came to budget numbers, isn't familiar with Ruby Bridges or the Tulsa massacre, and said she wanted Harvard and other schools to eliminate DEI while at the same time saying they want more viewpoint diversity on staff, which would be DEI.


Florida weatherman are also telling their viewers that hurricane projections are going to be inaccurate this season and moving forward due to federal cuts. Far less balloons are going up, staffing levels are down as much as 40%, and they're not sure data collection flights for active hurricanes is going to be possible.

Honestly he doesn’t need him anymore, but it’s hard to say how much Elon influenced the election in his favor. He not only turned the dude bro internet crowd from blue to Trump he also, as you said, had a pretty big influence on what people saw. Interesting "out" that CBO handed Trump on the (currently) $2.4T budget deficit over 10 years ... and the $2.5T tariff revenue.

I hope it's not good enough to sway the Senate Republicans against the bill; but probably changes the dynamics and provides an easy out for some.

President Trump’s tariffs will take a major bite out of U.S. deficit levels, reducing them by $2.5 trillion over the next decade and shrinking the size of the U.S. economy, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) found in a Wednesday analysis.

The deficit reduction is almost exactly the same size as the deficit addition that would result from the GOP’s “big, beautiful bill.” The CBO found that the bill would add $2.4 trillion to deficits through 2034, according to a separate analysis released Wednesday.

The tariffs measured by the CBO are those implemented from Jan. 6 to May 13, which includes the trade truce with China announced May 12.

The tariff assumptions below. I can see the 10% baseline tariff surviving but think everything else is in play for the next 3.5 years. And depending on who wins in 2028, fair chance that many of them will go away or be significantly reduced.

The CBO included in its calculation a menu of tariffs that Trump has announced since taking office:

a 30 percent tariff on imports from China and Hong Kong;
25 percent tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico that started March 7; 25 percent tariffs on steel and aluminum from March 12;
25 percent tariffs on most automobile imports starting April 3;
10 percent tariff on imports from most countries that began April 5; and
25 percent tariff on imports of most auto parts, as of May 3.

Also quoted in article if only 10% was kept. Different group, different assumptions etc.

The Tax Foundation estimated in April that a 10 percent universal tariff similar to the one imposed by the White House would raise $2.2 trillion over the 2025-to-2034 budget window.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is enough people, GOP politicians (they're up this cycle) willing to fight to reduce the bleeding (e.g. budget deficit) and overall debt at this time. Defense, Social Security, Medicare are the big ones and cutting those will get politicians fired. But I sure hope I'm wrong.

Unlikely it will succeed but love to see Musk fund a viable third party and build momentum on this.

It’s hard to care about the deficit when neither political party does. You don’t float tax cuts for the rich and take the high ground on the deficit just because you took away government insurance from some poor people. If you want to take a bite out of the deficit you have to tax rich people and businesses but that going to happen anytime soon.
