Well he also went against the majority of his customer base in all of his support of Trump in the first place. He aeems likely to alienate pretty much everyone before long.

Linda McMahon testimony to congress is embarrassing. She failed simple math when it came to budget numbers, isn't familiar with Ruby Bridges or the Tulsa massacre, and said she wanted Harvard and other schools to eliminate DEI while at the same time saying they want more viewpoint diversity on staff, which would be DEI.
Florida weatherman are also telling their viewers that hurricane projections are going to be inaccurate this season and moving forward due to federal cuts. Far less balloons are going up, staffing levels are down as much as 40%, and they're not sure data collection flights for active hurricanes is going to be possible. Love it.
Won't make it 100% right for how he screwed up the execution of Doge but it'll go a long way if he is able to stop the $2.5T addition to our debt and rally GOP senators and make the budget deficit neutral. Good thing I don't own any Tesla stock though. https://www.cnbc.com/2025/06/05/trum...l-nasa-ev.html Quote:

If Musk and other billionaires and their companies paid the same marginal tax rate (or even half) paid by, like, 80% of Americans, we likely wouldn't even have a budget deficit.

Trump and Musk ending badly is not a surprise to anybody. The only surprise to me is it took this long.

Even more goodness. I'm not sure who holds the better hand, I'm going to assume Trump who can hurt Musk's businesses a lot, but then does Musk care about $100B here or there? This will be fascinating as it plays out real-time. Quote:

Tesla stock down 15%. It's a good thing SpaceX isn't publically traded because that company might go kaput.

Honestly he doesn’t need him anymore, but it’s hard to say how much Elon influenced the election in his favor. He not only turned the dude bro internet crowd from blue to Trump he also, as you said, had a pretty big influence on what people saw. At this point though Trump is either done being elected or ending elections so Elon isn’t nearly as necessary and he probably felt that before he decided to do all this.

Had to drop by and read the comments. Pretty much as expected.
Your debt payments are now more expensive than your defense budget. Every year the country is spending more than it makes, and that trend is accelerating. Judging by the thread educated people in the U.S. are not aware how serious this problem is or where it leads? |

Interesting "out" that CBO handed Trump on the (currently) $2.4T budget deficit over 10 years ... and the $2.5T tariff revenue.
I hope it's not good enough to sway the Senate Republicans against the bill; but probably changes the dynamics and provides an easy out for some. Access to this page has been denied Quote:
The tariff assumptions below. I can see the 10% baseline tariff surviving but think everything else is in play for the next 3.5 years. And depending on who wins in 2028, fair chance that many of them will go away or be significantly reduced. Quote:
Also quoted in article if only 10% was kept. Different group, different assumptions etc. Quote:

Unfortunately, I don't think there is enough people, GOP politicians (they're up this cycle) willing to fight to reduce the bleeding (e.g. budget deficit) and overall debt at this time. Defense, Social Security, Medicare are the big ones and cutting those will get politicians fired. But I sure hope I'm wrong. Unlikely it will succeed but love to see Musk fund a viable third party and build momentum on this. Last edited by Edward64 : 06-06-2025 at 04:47 AM. |

It’s hard to care about the deficit when neither political party does. You don’t float tax cuts for the rich and take the high ground on the deficit just because you took away government insurance from some poor people. If you want to take a bite out of the deficit you have to tax rich people and businesses but that going to happen anytime soon.
