I get taking the job if you have few options, but it has no security and you're likely to be asked to do enough shady shit that it hinders your chance to get a real law enforcement job elsewhere. If you can get a job with NYPD, that's a much better option than ICE.

Yeah, it's bottom of the barrel work. The one upside with taking the gig in the past was you could parlay it into another federal job down the line. But those other federal jobs require a bachelors degree which they aren't requiring for ICE. Plus with the massive increase in hiring, you'll be up against a lot more competition if you want to move up.

Most police departments will offer better pay, benefits, and job security. Plus you don't have to deal with a bullshit polygraph (they'll probably ditch this). Heck, I think just enlisting (even in the reserves) is a better option long term since they'll pay for your degree and you won't be seen as such a pariah in the job market.

It's a good gig if you don't have any skills or education and can't pass the physicals for military or police. But there is a reason they are begging people to join.

I have no idea what the results and information gained from the 2024 election is supposed to do with anything. But not counting illegals would hurt blue and red states. Texas and Florida are 2nd and 3rd in that regard and not really that far behind California.

I've been thinking about the push to ban state and local-level regulations on AI. I don't believe the GOP is trying to advocate for non-consensual porn, but that's exactly what will happen. We're already seeing some of this, but there's almost certainly quite a bit of money to be made making AI porn videos from still pictures of clothed women. This would also make it nearly impossible to stop underage AI porn.

The plan hasn't been revealed, but if I had to guess it is going to be some kind of AI sampling that will remove more people from blue states than red states. It will not be any kind of legit census.

The Supreme Court already ruled that they couldn't use sampling for the 2000 census, I really don't think they would go along with something like that. (yes, usual caveats about this court)

I'm not downplaying this, because it's clear what his intent is, but he's actually fairly limited in what he can do. For the DC police he can direct them to guard federal property and that's really it. That's what he's doing.

For the national guard, it's not clear what the limits are and it hasn't been tested in court.

The reality is this is more of the typical Trump bluster and distraction that won't really have much of a direct impact but will test the courts for what can be done in the future.

IMO the problem is until such time as the courts do decide what can and can not be done, what limits are and are not there, Trump is fairly unlimited in what he can do. That is and has been the game plan all along.

If he can declare a public safety emergency because a 19 year former DOGE staffer who now works for the SSA and goes by the nickname of "Big Balls" was the victim of an attempted carjacking that occurred at 3am on a Tuesday morning despite the fact the attempted carjacking was stopped because a MPD cruiser turned down the block and arrested two of the suspects. If he can declare a public safety emergency based on that info, surely he can tell the DC police and the national guard to do more than he is allowed to do under the law and just wait for some court to tell he can't do it and decide if he is going to listen or not.
