Not as slow as I thought it would be although

Par for the course in that we’ll need to define what dictatorship actually is and its nuances, changing words, elements, etc so maybe we’ll never actually reach the definition since I’m sure it will be sliced up on here and in real life.

A federal appeals court said the only the GAO has standing to sue over impoundment. By the way, the GAO head is appointed by Trump.

So in a practical sense Trump now has permission to not spend anything allocated by congress.

We have a king.

Imagine how the Republicans will feel about the President having all of this power when the Democrats win it next time. It will be against the constitution, which will suddenly become important again.

I think I mentioned earlier in this thread that GOP congress is going to be very concerned about the expansion of executive power as soon as the next dem is elected president. Even though they're nearly the sole reason for the expansion of executive power.

I'm 100% voting for any candidate that runs on declaring national emergencies on gun violence, climate change, and healthcare.

The Trump Presidency 2.0

There won’t be a next presidential election that is fairly competed for

It’s over

The GOP has gone all in and cannot afford to give up their gains and the burgeoning complacency the populace has a adopted allowing incredible gains in control, power, and direction. They simply can’t afford to fold on the pot.

Some states (mainly blue states) will continue to have free and fair elections, but a sufficient number of states will absolutely not.

It's strange that redistricting can even be done by partisan people. It should be done by people that don't have a D or R on their titles. Very few government jobs should have a D or an R on them.

We can thank John Roberts for putting the SCOTUS seal of approval on partisan gerrymandering.

New Pew poll has Trump at 60-38.

Wait, I mean 38-60.

He's cratering support amongst minorities and the young.

So is Newsome the only one interested in running in 2028? Kind of weird that he's the only Dem really outspoken.

His trolling of Trump over the past week has been nothing short of brilliant. Showing the GOP how ridiculous Trump's tweets are when they come from the other party is something someone should have been doing all along.

The fact that the Trump administration was spooked enough to send CBP to the press conference shows its getting under their skin.

Pritzger and Walz have been pretty good but (even though I can't stand the guy) Newsome has found something with his mocking tweets. They sure hate to be mocked.

Pritzker has been good but his national profile still seems to be nearly non-existent. I also don't think the party will accept him as a viable candidate since he doesn't need the corporate donors.

Walz just came out and said he won't look into redistricting which tells me he's not interested in fighting against Trump. He can run as one of the many Dems who will tweet cool stuff but won't do anything. But I think voters are looking at people willing to take action.

For the record, I don't really like Newsome but at this point, anyone willing to actually take some kind of action seems better than anyone else in the party.

Walz has already said he has no interest in running in 2028, he wouldn't be viable anyway because he would be tied to the Biden admin and Kamala and that is enough for a lot of people.

Pritzker has a chance to build his national exposure. There is plenty of time yet.

Sure looked like Putin was dogwalking Trump. It's funny that Trump said this meeting would be like playing chess when he doesn't play and Putin does.

Wow maybe the love affair is over? You know darn well they would have been all over the red carpet and Putin riding in the Presidential limo if it had been Biden or Harris

If we can agree on anything, it's that trump probably got him sucked off quick, Putin gave him the pat, and the engines on the jets fired up. That's it in a nutshell.

The picture of our soldiers kneeling to roll out the red carpet for Putin while his security detail stands over them would be plastered over every part of conservative media.

In Trump's rant about mail-in voting he dropped some new conservative orthodoxy. States are just agents of the federal government and have to do whatever he says.

And not a single conservative will say a word.

You can tell when one of his far right cronies gets into his ear with a new bullshit legal strategy. He runs to social media with it and drops it loke its a widely accepted legal theory.

I don't think the TikTok ban is good policy, but it is the law. It's crazy how the WH is flaunting its decision to ignore clearly written legislation.

The problem with TikTok was solved. No need to ban it anymore. It was never about the evil Chinese. Was always about anti-Israeli messages.

Has been for awhile. It's the Republican Party with nicer optics.

I think the fact that Zohran ignited their base in New York and hit all the demographics they've been desperately trying to reach and they won't even endorse him tells the story. Democrats in Minnesota are doing the same with the guy who won the primary for Mayor in Minneapolis too.

Congrats to liberals for supporting unpopular positions and politicians. You got the party you wanted.

The GOP was dead in 2008. Dems were dead in 2004. One good candidate and they'll be fine. There's always going to be an opposition to whichever party is in power.

I think the issue is that the Democratic Party has completely different policies and ideas than Democratic voters. They'll fight tooth and nail against anyone with popular ideas because they'll go against their donors. Look at what they're trying to do with Zohran.

I also wouldn't say the Republicans were dead in 2008. They fought incredibly hard against Obama and limited what he was able to do (not that Obama really tried). The Democrats will never fight that hard against Republicans because they share the same donor base. The fact they can't capitalize on some of the dumb shit Trump is doing tells it all.

An example is the redistricting. Multiple Republican states are going to gain seats through gerrymandering and California is the only one willing to fight back, and even that is kind of a half ass attempt. Democrats will cry about how Republicans cheated while losing like usual.

The GOP suffered some pretty serious defeats in 2006 & 2008, got taken over by their base (an astroturfed base, but a base nonetheless), played the hardball they wanted, and ended up, over a dozen years or so, being able to roll back a lot of shit they did not like, pack SCOTUS, and put their own avatar in the Oval Office for two terms and counting.

If the same thing happened for the Democrats, I'd be thrilled, but the Republican party has electoral advantages the Democrats don't (both the EC & Senate make-up, plus the fact that "moderate" Republicans will hold their nose and vote for candidates they dislike while their counterparts in the Democratic party often won't do the same), so I guess we'll just have to see....

Dems definitely have problems, they are feckless and don't stand for anything, but if there are real elections in 2026 they'll do well.

You are one of the smartest guys on the board and you are almost there....

Fair elections will be a thing of the past withing a year. No one on the democratic side, except maybe Newsome, is fighting back. The electorate is apathetic and shrinking. Congress, the DOJ, and SC are all subservient to one man.

All the guardrails are gone and the GOP is taking full advantage despite laws and the constitution.

This isn't a situation where an unpopular GOP presidents term is up or people are stagnant because the current party has been in power 2 terms or the economy is bad.

The GOP is rigging the system and Obama isn't walking through that door.

And they’ve pushed all in so they cannot afford to lose at this point in time so they will stop at nothing to make sure that the project is completed and we end up in a fascist authoritarian state. They can’t afford to fold.
