It is pretty wild how the GOP has flat out said they won't negotiate with the dems since they have the power, then turn around and blame the dems for not negotiating.

If people believe they are actually taking out drug runners, they are going to be supportive. It is just carrying over the "war on terror" extrajudicial killings to the "war on drugs". It is funny how Americans in general don't trust the government but have no problem trusting them to kill people a thousand miles away without any oversight.

The Pentagon says it's okay to murder someone even if they are "three hops" away from a known drug trafficker.

Fucking hell.

It plays to their base. Of course the parties arent that different. Playing the victim vs actually being the victim.

Lucky for KY that it has a Democrat Governor at least trying to do something. This state is going to get absolutely hammered. 70% Trump and over 500K - over 10% of the entire state population - will be affected by losing SNAP. And even then, the GOP AG is publicly criticizing Beshear joining in the suit against the Trump Administration.

His options are limited, and most of those would require the GOP super-majority legislature to act with him to free up state funds. Let me guess what's NOT going to happen?!

$4200! HUGE AMOUNT!! Well, until you figure out that this is $80.77 a week, which I'm not sure goes very far, and you have to both eat AND stock up.

What do these people want taxes to go to? We pay like 30% of everything we make and should get something in return from the government besides handouts for Israel, Argentina, and whatever scam software the latest tech billionaire is shilling the government.

Feeding people is literally the foundation of why governments came to be. It's the absolute bare minimum. I just don't understand what they think the job of government is at this point.

Also food stamps was made to benefit farmers. It literally produces value to our economy. It's like $1.50 or something back for every $1 we spend. One of the best investments we can make.

Just tactically the GOP has a difficult hill to climb. On the one hand they tell people they are in charge, have an unprecedented mandate, and can do whatever they wish. On the other hand they want people to believe that Dems are in charge and there's nothing they can do.

I get the underlying facts they are arguing, but that's a tough fight to win with low information voters.

Federal judge rules the government must continue to fund SNAP with contingency funds. Will be interesting to see if the government appeals or even listens.

All of the polling on the shutdown is bad for the GOP.

It's a weird situation for the GOP. Trump doesn't need public support anymore. But members of his party do for upcoming elections. But they have to be fully subservient to him. He needs the shutdown to prevent the Epstein release and some other stuff. But it's going to be deeply unpopular.

I also don't understand how we allow people to work for no pay. Feels like you should be forced to shutdown anything you aren't paying for.

This is another insane Epstein story. He was clearly money laundering for wealthy people and investigators were looking into it. Magically got dropped. Acosta perjured himself a few months back.

We need a system like everyone else has that just keeps things as is if there is no budget passed. Of course that would also require the courts to actually enforce spending rather than allowing the WH to impound anything they don't like.

People should do the math on the maximum a person can earn before receiving SNAP benefits. I know thats asking a lot when most people can't add 2+dog, but if a person does everything by the book (i.e. insurance, rent, car, food, utilities, etc.), it's mathematically impossible to break even in any normal American city without government assistance.

It's a weird psychological thing. $40 billion to Argentina and it's fine. Few hundred million for Elon's worthless chatbot. Bail out some banks tied to silicon valley. Hundreds of billions in handouts to billionaires with questionable government services.

None of these are a big deal to these people. Feeding a hungry child, well that's the end of the Republican for some reason. Can't tell if it's just lack of empathy or some weird pathetic worship of wealthy people.

Politics right now is largely people making thousands an hour convincing people making $25 an hour that people making less than $10 an hour are the problem.

It's clear that Trump is currently a shell of his former self. I saw an interview with him from about 10 years ago, he was pretty sharp. It's pretty shocking to see such a difference. Everything he has been accusing Biden of being, is currently happening to him right now.

Trump approval rating at an abysmal level yet in an interview yesterday he was asked what he wants for the next 3 years and he said he wants them to go the same way the last 9 months has because it has been the best 9 months in the history of any presidency.

Someone said here or in another thread he has to be getting fed info about how great he is doing and being shielded from reality, or his brains are just so far gone he actually thinks he's doing a great job.

Americans blame Trump for poor economy in CNN approval rating poll

I think a large number, if not most, GOP members of congress realize Trump is batshit crazy and hell bent on destroying democracy. They just care more about their jobs than the country and know they will be primaried if they don't bow to dear leader.

I wonder if with this new redistricting on CA and potential other blue states if some of these GOP members will come out against the party when they realize they are going to be redistricted out of a job.

Probably a fantasy but would be cool to see a few of them go scorched earth.

Wife just back from a trip to Texas to see her mom and step father. They live in a completely different universe and my wife doesn't keep quiet about their bullshit anymore. Her high school friends are actually shifting away from the GOP because of Trump but her parents are deep in the cult. Casual racism, everything is the dems fault, complaining about Biden's mental state while being oblivious to Trump's clear decline, etc. She had so many stories from this trip and really struggles to handle going back to an area she loves.

What's wild is the mental gymnastics they go through to excuse or justify racism and how they don't see themselves as MAGA diehards. In their minds they're more center right or traditional conservative.

This is what happens when money is the most important thing in politics. People are not getting elected to Congress because they're any good at governing, they're getting elected because they are really good at raising money.

Both parties ultimately want the same thing. Democrats want to do it through neoliberalism and Republicans want to do it through fascism.
