I'm a tad amused at CFB bottomfeeder twitter right now, with the accusations of racism being launched at Warde Manuel.
Umm ...

Somebody with corporate experience enlighten me if you'd be so kind.
A subsection of Twitter seems focused on the aspect of "no HR and no security" in the room when the AD fired Moore. Okay, from a how-the-world-works-these-days standpoint, I get why that's odd. But I keep seeing the suggestion that somehow that enhanced the danger to the ... mistress? ... since the AD was allegedly told previously that Moore was mentally unstable. What I'm not understanding is this: what were an HR bureaucrat and an in-house security guard going to do, physically restrain Moore from leaving? That sounds like anything from false imprisonment to kidnapping to me. What am I missing here?

Nothing. There is absolutely nothing an hr rep or security could have done. Maybe warn the mistress, but who can say they didn't? |

Okay, thanks. So at least I'm not just blind as a bat when it comes to not understanding why people would be focused on those absences with regard to the mistress safety I thought maybe I was just completely overlooking something.

Agree. Maybe calm him down and give him some time with people as he gets his things or whatever, but that seems like it would be wishful thinking. The one time I've had to fire someone, it was also with cause, and dude was not welcome back I'm the building. I don't know if it works the same way here, or what happens after he leaves Warde's office. But it feels more like "Warde and U of M got lucky" rather than "if Warden acted better, stuff would have been prevented" |

That is all I can think of. Or alert the police. If she is an employee of the school, there could be liability if Moore came across as unhinged or threatening in the meeting and the school did not alert people to it and something happened to her. There was a pretty bad incident in Minnesota the other day of a guy who killed his co-worker with a sledgehammer. Listened to the police dispatch that TMZ put out and seeing some reporting and the picture is becoming a little clearer. It seems like they had an affair. It was mostly an open secret but there is really not much the school could do if there was nothing to corroborate it. Sounds like the affair ended months ago but he became obsessed and started stalking her. She reported it to the school the other day and he was fired. |

I'm surprised the HR rep wasn't there just as a part of the university's standard end of employment practices. I'm not surprised that there was no warning. As soon as they do that they open themselves to all sorts of problems. A warning would imply they knew, so why didn't they do more?

The whole "He was fired in a room without HR and/or security" conflicts with other reports that the AD went from getting the irrefutable evidence that the mistress provided either directly or from investigators and deciding to fire Moore to having a meeting with the team and staff informing them of the decision while Moore was still around the facility. Moore figured out if there was a big football meeting with all the important football people and the only person not in the meeting was the head football coach, that person was probably no longer the head football coach. According to those reports, he left the facility to go after the mistress during that meeting. Now I can see people asking where the hell HR/Security were if that is the way it played out. My theory is those people feel like if reportedly the mistress turned state's evidence for the school which led to Moore losing his job, HR, Security and by extension law enforcement have a responsibility to protect the witness who for all we know may still be their current employee. I'm not sure I agree but I also can't say that I have not seen companies provide security for employees who might be under threat of physical violence from a crazy former employee.

Agree at this point. Warde has been getting a lot of hate for years, mainly because I think the AD is an easy target, then adding in blame for not being able to keep Harbaugh. I think most of that is unwarranted -- I don't think there's anything an AD could have done to keep Harbaugh, and if anything, the rest of the criticism involved wanting Warde to do stuff like "tell the NCAA to pound sand" or "why isn't he publicly defending the school from this stuff." But yeah, this is a lot. Some of these things are worse than others, and some of them really shouldn't affect anyone's opinion of Warde at all. I don't follow hockey, but from what I have read, the Mel Pearson thing is the one where it sounds like Warde was most incompetent. Word is, Regents met yesterday and did not fire him. I don't know any other details. Maybe they feel the investigation was handled appropriately. Maybe there was a reason he was 1-1 in the room with Moore, and they felt it was okay. Maybe they just need Warde since they need a coach fast. And maybe their incentives are different from the public, and they care about completely different thing$ entirely, and despite that happening at universities and organizations all over, that's not a conversation we're going to have. |

So is Moore the biggest crashout from a major college football coach we've ever seen? There's been some brutal downfalls but seeing the guy shackled in a courtroom today days after being fired is something else.

So now they were dating for years and rumors were rampant throughout campus but I am supposed to believe that despite conducting two separate investigation, the university could not find any firm evidence of this being an inappropriate relationship? Nothing? Until she walked in the door and uh laid everything out for the investigators?

NJ outlawed plastic bags so now everyone has to use reusable bags. The local shopright grocery store also eliminated hand baskets leaving just carts. So people who just needed a couple things started dropping things in the reusable bag and basically using them as a de facto basket. The store management responded by calling the police and having those people arrested for shoplifting. |

LOL. So far the primary source for that claim appears to be a 3rd tier Dawg blog site. And given the leeway that the athletic department "fixer" gets, I'm sure there'll be some sort of perfectly innocent explanation ... whether there's any truth to it or not. If you had any idea how severe the shoplifting problem is around here you might understand why there's not much room for benefit of the doubt. Fast food joints have to keep ketchup & napkins behind the counter in this festering shithole of a town.

Can't help but imagine, Mendoza was all but set to go to Georgia. Everything was in place. The big difference was he wasn't guaranteed a starting position and he would have had to compete with Gunnar. There is no doubt he likely would have won the role. Hard not to imagine what Georgia would have been like with him at the helm. As well as he played, Gunnar is not Mendoza.

Police report makes it pretty clear they were legit stealing. They made a claim they "accidentally " didn't pay, but there is no way the could legitimately overlook the number of items they did, not to mention one tried to run when stopped. Probably the injured one since he got caught, but then the linemen probably doesn't run too fast. The bigger issue is they purchased items with an EBT card. Both getting paid NIL money, how the heck did thry hwve an EBT card? If someone decides to really look at this hard, they might be looking at felony fraud. Morons. |

I could have sworn I kept hearing how "the calendar is the problem" in college football. And how moving the portal date to January was going to make things better.
And here we are in mid-December with literally dozens of announcements of "plan to enter the portal", players quitting on the teams that have been paying them before the season ends, etc. The calendar is not, and never was, the problem. The problem is that these are nothing more than paid mercenaries. For the love of God, schools (looking at you Southern Cal) holding public "re-signing ceremonies" now. One thing that does need to be addressed however is the lack of enforcement, or even acknowledgement, of tampering. I mean, the portal doesn't open for another month so how is it that players are already negotiating with their new teams? The courts would just ban enforcement anyway but could we at least just be open about the fact that there's no such thing as "tampering" and that it's open season on every player 24/7/365.

They're in 4A (currently the state's 5th largest of 7 classifications) VERY loosely speaking, the best team in Georgia is usually going to be in one of the top two classes, but that tier Creekside is in can have a best team be riiiiight up there near 'em now & then. That's a record-setting Creekside team, went 15-0 and won the 4A title this week, scoring a state record 845 points this season. Boosted by a 91-0 point performance over a winless team that saw them score (IIRC) six defensive TDs in the second half. They scored 91 that night without running a single offensive play (they were taking knees) for the final two quarters played with a running clock. They won the title on Monday in a 42-39 decision over Benedictine, recovering an onside kick attempt in the final minute to seal it, after trailing 24-21 at the half. Funny thing about that game: the biggest name recruits don't play for the offensive juggernaut, they play for the military school in Savannah. Benedictine QB and top defender (an edge guy IIRC) are both heading to Texas Tech, their top WR to Notre Dame. Creekside biggest names are a pair of junior linebackers that are committed to SIU and picking between UAB/Memphis. *for those unfamiliar, last year Creekside went to DeSoto and lost 70-0. This year they dominated DeSoto 70-28 edit to add: for a bit more perspective, that Benedictine team that played Creekside down to the final minute also faced Buford (in that new $62m stadium) in week two this season. Was close for a while before the numbers wore 'em down, Buford won that game 42-14. Buford, as mentioned in the other thread, just won the state 6A title and probably several national titles last night. ** And for even a bit more insight, Buford looked like dogshit offensively most of the game last night. Younger bro QB Raiola ain't him either, let's just say that. Nicer kid I think, completely different dynamic with the program but not a future star IMO. Half of Buford's rushing yards for game on the game winning 82 yard sprint and they won 28-21 despite having only 8 first downs all night, their longest possession was only 2:23. 157 of their 306 total yards came on that run + a 75 yard pass.

According to the Athletic, the coach, Brian Smith received some sort of reprimand letter for storing alcohol in his office and for having drinks in the office with members of the staff. That was on Nov 25. Less than a week later, he was suspended and now he is gone. I am not familiar with the school and its principles but reprimanding a head coach for drinks in the office with members of the staff seems a bit overboard given the football cultures I am aware of. A few details that seem pretty relevant. - The school hired a new AD in September. - Smith did not actually sign the finalized contract to be the head coach until October of this year despite being promoted to the head coaching job last December. He was on the previous head coach's staff for three seasons. This makes the no alcohol in the office thing even stranger to me. - The contract he signed included a a $50,000 retention payment if he remained head coach of the Bobcats on Dec. 31, 2025 Not saying he doesn't deserve to be fired if he did engage in a inappropriate relationship, it just feels like they were upset that they had to push Smith out on the streets.

Seen the cost of a college education lately? Not a single solitary person who played a college sport has ever been handcuffed and forced to attend. There's no such thing as a divine right to play a sport for a living. If they don't like the terms then go get a real fucking job.

I’m just going to toss this out there. If they didn’t have value there wouldn’t be a market. It’s Capitalism. Anything done to artificially limit that is not the American way. We are probably going to end up with collective bargaining at some point.
