OT - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Saw this today and was moved. For those of you who know me and my work a bit you'll remember how important memory is to me, and this film has a pretty great take on it. I'm interested in seeing what others here think.
I think hands down this is Jim Carrey's best work, and I love The Truman Show. A strong hand by the director in reigning in the overacting that generally creeps into Carrey's performances...I don't think there was a moment in the film that I felt I was seeing any of the old Jim Carrey touches. Great visuals and showy touches that don't intrude too much...great supporting work (excepting most of Kirstin Dunst until late in the film, although I'm pretty cold on her anyway), and a great soundtrack. My favorite film of the year thus far. |

Great to hear. I'm a huge fan of Carrey in a non-comedic role (I like him in his comedies sometimes too...but not nearly as much), and The Truman Show is one of my favorite movies of all time. I'll definitely have to go out and take a look at this one.
EDIT - NoMyths: what'd you think of The Majestic?

I think Jim Carrey was best in this too, although I think his performance in the Andy Kauffman pic was better than The Majestic(also a good performance/film) and The Truman Show. He was so good in that at times you totally forgot it was Carrey on screen, something I think he duplicated in Eternal Sunshine.

Vince - Skipped The Majestic after being turned off by the trailers...seemed a bit too Frank Capra/Jimmy Stewartish, in the bad sense. Will probably visit it at some point, but I'm in no hurry.
