Debugging

Ok, I installed Microsoft Office XP like 3 days ago. Ever since then, I always get pop-ups on a few websites asking me if I would like to debug. It is the most annoying thing. I know you can disable it, I just don't know how.

Does anyone know?

I had to install a firewall, because the popups became unbearable.

In the Internet Options window on IE 6, go to the Advanced tab. There is a setting there marked 'Disable script debugging'. Toggling that checkbox on should fix the problem you're having, Shorty.

While that will get rid of those annoying pop-up messages, the fact that you were getting them means your computer is pretty much open to anyone out there. You might want to think about getting some type of firewall; either hardware or software.

That's not really true, Tarkus. For instance, I'm behind a firewall right now, but if I turn on script debugging in IE, my browser will pop up a little message box asking me if I want to debug any script that contains an error. It's a function of the content that I'm choosing to view, not the vulnerability (or lack thereof) of my particular system.

I'm not denouncing firewalls, mind you, I think that everyone should use one. I'm just saying that the fact that his browser is asking him to debug defective scripts in no way indicates the security level at which Shorty is surfing.

I bow to your expertise. It was just that way for me before I put in the firewall (I didn't know about the option you mentioned at the time and I had the firewall anyway since I'd added a router).
