Your CM World Cups?
There have been some very good CM dynasty threads posted here from time to time & one of the things I've found most interesting is the results from top competitions like the World Cup.
Well, I really wasn't prepared to tackle a full-blown dynasty thread with my CM 03/04 debut (with Oxford United, now 2nd division & missed the playoffs by 1 point in my 3rd season with the club, a season where we were expected to battle bravely against relegation). But I thought the WC results might be remotely interesting. This thread may fly, it may die, but I thought there was a chance it might be interesting enough to generate a few reports from various careers that weren't getting the full dynasty treatment.

I would certainly check it out. I love WC reports from CM.
I am trying to move on up toward China 2010 in my Tamworth dynasty, but I am still a year away. I did do a fairly comprehensive writeup of Euro 2008. CR

Quote:
Brazil should sweep through this one. The rest is tough, though--even Saudi Arabia is much better than their ranking would indicate. Quote:
Columbia and Gemrany should be a good one. Quote:
U.S. #2? This is a pretty good group here. Very tough. Quote:
Another underrated very tough group. South Korea got to the semis in my Germany 2006. Holland and Belgium should have a fun Low Countries War. Quote:
Wow! Poor Togo. Quote:
I know Senegal is a solid squad, but I was a little surprised to see them so close to Top 10, even in the meaningless FIFA rankings. Argentina should easily get out of this one, but the rest of it is a toss up to me. Quote:
Mexico was a Germany 2006 finalist for me. This is an interesting group. Not sure how it will come out. Even the high ranked clubs aren't usually, shut down no doubt about it clubs. And it's easy to underrate the midlevel European clubs and the African nations. Quote:
Italy should sweep through this, but it's a toss up after that. Of course, this all assumes Italy doesn't choke. They usually do.

Quote:
Wow, Brazil could be out! They need to beat Denmark and have Saudi Arabia draw or lose to Iran to get in. Quote:
Germany scored five goals? Are you sure that's really Germany? Mali was in Germany 2006, too, although they didn't make a run at the second round. Quote:
Norway doing well, doesn't surprise me at all, but the U.S. should be disappointed they didn't beat Switzerland. If Norway beats Switzerland, it could come down to US and Japan playing heads up for the final spot. Quote:
Wow, South Korea is really choking, even in a tough group. In fact, doing the math, the last two matches are meaningless. Quote:
Togo drew with France?!? If I were a French fan, that would really piss me off. England doesn't choke in the group stage, whatdyaknow. Quote:
This one seems pretty messed up. Argentina could be out, too? Ouch. Quote:
Looks like Mexico is going to have to beat Uruguay to get a shot at getting in. I have always liked Wales, though, ever since my Cwmbran Town dynasty with CM01/02 a couple years ago. Quote:
Well, they didn't win impressively, but no choke job by Italy. I'm not surprised Morrocco is where they are, but they are going to nee to beat Italy now, assuming Australia beats the Poles.

And after all that, most of the surprises falter in the final match while the favorites mostly get the job done
2nd Round Matchups Denmark vs Columbia Germany vs Brazil Norway vs Belgium Holland vs Japan Argentina vs England Portugal vs Senegal Mexico vs Morocco Uruguay vs Italy From the group stage Germany is the scoring leader, with 11 goals in 3 games (and could have beaten Russia 6-1 but missed a PK) Both Italy & Brazil allowed just 1 goal in three games Brazil's Ronaldinho has 4 goals, with 7 players scoring 3 times each. For the disappointing U.S., it was the loss to Norway that killed them, as Tim Howard allowed a Thorstein Helstad goal in the 88 minute to suffer the loss.

Good stuff, Jon. The way Sonck was playing, I'm not surprised Belgium won the Final, although no way would I have called it from the group stage.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say this will NOT be the way the real Germany 2006 goes (although after that madcap Euro 2004, who the heck knows for sure...) CR

What surprised me was that Belgium didn't even make it back!
If this happened in real life, Pirlo would be having statues erected for him in Italy right now. A game-winner at the death of the World Cup final? Wow. I lvoe this stuff. I would post my own, but, of course, I have my own thread for that (i.e. Tamworth, etc.). Good job again, Jon. How's your managing career going in this one anyway? CR

Kinda shocked me too. I had to backtrack & see what happened to them & several of the other likely teams, so I figured I might as well post it. Quote:

Thanks, alas I wish my career was as exciting as the '10 World Cup. I'm still in 2nd Division, with a team that "feels" like it's getting better each year but that is actually slipped back 1-2 spots/3-6 points each season since promotion. I've got a great scorer (Andrei Pereplyotkin), my midfield play is solid, my keepers are adequate/above average for the division, and my outside defenders are very good, especially Che Wilson on the right side. It's a bit of a revolving door in the center of the defense (4-4-3) but by & large the play is at least average nearly every match. And yet, I keep suffering losses I shouldn't, usually due to a soft goal or two at critical moments. It's like we can't get over the hump or something. Ah well, maybe this is the year. Thanks for reading along, feedback is encouraging on things like these.

Yeah, that Pereplyotkin guy could be pretty good.
I have NOOOOOO idea why I wouold know that, though. He should be tearing it up in the Second Division for sure. CR

Just a little footnote, since I had mentioned my recent struggles.
In 2011, Oxford United earned promotion to the First Division by winning the Second Division championship with a record of 26-8-12. Andrei Pereplyotkin led the team with 37 goals. Fraser Logan had 11 goals & 14 assists. Che Wilson avg 4.7 tkls/90 mins, with an avg rating of 7.39
