Thoughts on Cabinet Appointees

Sec State:
Colin Powell's leaving by all accounts- fundementall policy differences. Too bad- a shame for a guy who could easily have been America's first Black President, and a Republican one at that- seeing him marginalized in favor of the Wolfowitz's of the world. Rumors about of Rice possibly stepping to the plate here, although she's also being linked with the DOD, which would be interesting.

DOD:
Rumsfield Gone- The rumor mill has Rice possibly heading here, or even Ridge.

Justice: Ashcroft is leaving, which probably will help the perception of the administration overall- Ridge has been mentioned here, as has Milt Rooney or possibly Orrin Hatch - not sure which way Bush will go here.

Others: Paige is expected to leave at Education, and a couple of others I can't recalll..

Others- thoughts ? I think Ridge would present a better face at Justice- and while I think Powell going is a huge blow- he'd been rendered inconsequential by the Wolfowitz block a while back- I dont think it will affect policy that much, but it will affect perception.

Don't forget about the Fed since Greenspan is set to leave as well.

I just read this in an article...

Time and energy also will be consumed dealing with the inevitable rash of Cabinet departures, likely to include at least Secretary of State Colin Powell, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge and Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson.

I expect Rice to move up not out, although she has mentioned a desire to go back to Academia- schools would be clamoring to get someone with her background as a president. Forgot about Thompson though- any rumors on replacements ?
