OMG - my initial thinking was this was a "I saw someone wanting to trade an XBox/Playstation FOR a 9 year old girl" thread. *sigh of relief*

Anyway...umm...sorry, have no idea about games for that age group

Game Cube is the "kid" system.

I have an 8 year old daughter and we bought her a Playstation 2 for Christmas. I have an Xbox and there just isn't many games for her to play.

The good thing about a PS2 is you can play Playstation 1 games, which really opens up games that suit her age. We also bought her an eye toy, which should be alot of fun.

FWIW, she won a Gamecube at school and she sold it for the money to get a new bike.

She also loves her Gameboy Advance.

I'd say Gamecube because I want to pimp the system. But I don't really know which system has the most games for a nine year old girl...

That's a really important feature when you can pick up a DVD player for $20 on sale and the Gamecube costs... $30-$50 less than the other two. Yet some people actually still think that way.

I'll second that...my eight year old daughter has a PSOne in her room and we share the PS2 downstairs. With the PSOne games, there's always something that she likes.

I would think Gamecube or PSOne would be the best options, first they are cheap and PSOne has so many games and they are cheap. Cube generally has games for younger people (avoids kid comment) and girls.

I would go with the GBA instead of any console, but if you want to get the console, the GameCube is the best bet for the little girl.

If its for her, get the Gamecube, and the Gameboy player. For 150 usd, its a great combo. If you are planning on playing some, get the PS2 cause it has a lot more kids games than the xbox does.

I knew our love affair wouldn't last long.

By the time you buy a muti-switch box to accomodate satellite, gamecube, and a DVD player, you'll be close to the price of the ps2, which btw when you look at how it's compatible with ps1 games, has TONS more game options than the gamecube.

Also, we just bought a DVD player for our youngest at Walmart and I recall it was around $40 with tax. You must be talking Kansas prices.

Yeah, last I checked, you still had high prices over there to make up for the money lost to your economy when you had to stop being a slave state

Um... your satellite shouldn't be running through your game system or DVD player either way.

So, let me help you with that math. I know that's not really your strong suit over there
$12.49 Radio Shack 3-way splitter (you even an extra one. Personally, I have a 4-way splitter in my living room and it's not enough with DVD, VCR, Gamecube, PSX, Dreamcast, and N64 all vying for spaces)
$14.99 Progressive Scan DVD Player (after rebate)
Now that looks a lot like $27 plus tax

Thanks guys. I had looked at the games available for the PS2/Xbox and didn't see a lot for a 9 year old girl. I'm reluctant to get a GameCube as it seems to be yesterday's machine but I will look at the software for it. I'll also look at the PS1 software (if there is any in this almost-outback town).

The GBA could be the answer.

Maybe I should spend the money on updating her PC

Anyway, thanks again.

GBA is great for kids (and some of us big kids). If you really want to spoil her, you can get her the Nintendo DS which is the new Nintendo handheld. It's reverse compatable with GBA games (but not GBC or GB, strangely enough).

If you do go with a GBA, get a GBA SP. That backlight makes all the difference in the world and the rechargeable battery is very handy.

I would strongly advise not getting the nine year old a strip poker game. Just a suggestion.

First of all Radio Shack sucks. Second of all, don't you read how bad fatwallet is?

Go and watch some Jayhawk football... oh yeah, they suck!

Ok, that's all I could come up with on short notice.

Nah, I know how bad fat wallet is. I've lost out on a few items because of them. But I also know that it's best to use the tools of jackasses against them. It's kindof a love/hate thing with them and there are some decent people over there. There's just a lot of wholesalers and con guys, too.

Upon further review SI, I should just keep my mouth shut. Football is a ways off and I don't think I want to see us vs Kansas this year in basketball.

Well, I was going to let it slide. You've endured enough this year (and I'm really excited about seeing Kansas next year)
