FM Question/Problem
Almost every game i've started has ended up as a "load game not saving", and I'm getting damned frustrated. It's even happened w/games i've just created, saved and tried to go back to. Any suggestions? I'm running with the patch, 1.8 Celeron, 512 MB, Windows XP.

do you have...shoot I forget the name of the option...the rolling partial-save option on? Because I used to have problems with my savegames occasionally, but in this latest version of FM where it saves chunks multiple times (or something like that) I haven't noticed the same problem. You could probably check the SI board or if they have no answer, ping our resident FM guru MV.

First guess would be a lack of hard drive space or administrator's privileges.

in the past i have had bad luck without rolling save. Rolling save seems to make a big difference. Do you have that on?

Yeah, I had it on. This is really befuddling me. I can start a game........save it, then exit. And sometimes when I go back in and try to load it, i get the "cannot load saved game message". Other times, I can load it, and I had a game going for about 4 months (game time, not real time) that has the "cannot load saved game" problem. Heck I don't want to play for fear of this happening at some point. No luck at the SI boards.......haven't had a reply and I posted last night. |

Well..........I thought I had it cured with an uninstall, complete deletion for saves folder, etc. Problem came back last night..........I don't think I had a problem prepatch, so I may reinstall and not install the patch. This sucks.

Can you email one of your non-loading games to me at [email protected] and I'll try and work out what the problem is ... and if possible fix your game.

Try turning off all auto-save and rolling save features.

I believe I've tried that, I guess it's possible when the computer is "saving" and I'm not actually manual saving it's causing some kind of corruption. The problem is........I don't know until at some point when the save goes bad. I love the game, but obviously this has made it frustrating. Maybe Mark will get it fixed for me, and I can play over my break for the next week and a half. |

If you haven't done it already, I'd strongly suggest ordering it online. There's no point in waiting.

EHM finally looks to be available in Nova Scotia now. Saw it for the first time yesterday at both Wal-Mart and EB.

Distribution in America for both WSM and EHM has been less than ideal so far - its something we'll be working on improving in the future ..

I got mine Sunday at Babbage's at Washington Square in Tigard, OR. I'd checked the Gamestop website, it said in stock, and sure enough I found it on the shelf. Today, the closest in stock is in Vancouver, WA, about 25-30 miles away. If you can't find it, order it online.

To be honest I'm not expecting distribution to improve dramatically before the release of our next version of EHM, hopefully it'll filter around a few more stores but I can't promise anything. Marc |

Cougarfreak, have you check the read/write permissions on your My Documents folder? FM's save game files are put there and if you changed the permissions, renamed the folder, or even maybe moved it that may be causing your save game problems.

right click on file, properties, and see if the "read-only" box is checked. one thing when transferring games from a burned CD (may not be in your case), when they go back onto your pc, they are "read-only". Right clicking on the folder and de-selecting "read-only" will take that permission off of all files. Todd |

Just a quick note, Mark, that EHM now seems to be appearing in Most stores in Atlantic Canada just this week. I haven't seen more than 2 copies in any store, but it is a positive sign.

So should they be "read only" or not? My sports interactive folder in my documents says it is, as does the games folder inside of that folder. When I uncheck the box and click apply, then ok, THEN when i go back to it, is says it's read only again. Is that correct? I don't have a burned CD or anything like that. Ordered it from gamestop. |

Sorry, I'm confusing you (and myself). That second part was in case you copied your saves folder to a CD to transfer to a different pc, like say a laptop as I do when I travel. I'm thinking the saves game folder should not be "read only", but I'm not positive on this as I don't have the game yet. Todd |

Mabye Marc will see this and respond. If it shouldn't be read only, how can i get that box unchecked and to stay that way?? Even if I click to uncheck it and apply, it comes back on the next time?????? |

I can't use FM2005 5.02 patch on WW Soccer Manager? I thought it was the same game.

NO, there's a different patch for the American version, per the SI boards. I would imagine some spellings, and different folder assignments due to the different name for the game. |

Per SI Games website:
We are pleased to announce that we have made available a patch for Worldwide Soccer Manager 2005. This is for those customers who purchased this game in North America (please note if your box says Football Manager 2005 you should download the FM patch http://www.sigames.com/downloads.php?type=view&id=236 Please note, this patch is save game compatible. You do not need to start a new game, however for the best results it is suggested. When you have downloaded the file and installed it by double clicking on the file (it will check your system for the current location of your WWSM game), you should view the changelist.txt file which has a list of the fixes and enhancements that we have made since the game went gold. It was my understanding that it was essentially the same game but with different packaging (different splash screen, manual, etc.). I think if it were me, I'd download the version of the patch that corresponds to the game I have, but that's just me |

I will, but I was hoping it was the same exact game, and different patches wouldn't be required.

Ok...if that's the case, then why did it take days to have an American version of the patch? Not trying to start a scrum or anything, but it seems odd...

The first paragraph was a bit off. I've fixed it...
Per SI Games website: We are pleased to announce that we have made available a patch for Worldwide Soccer Manager 2005. This is for those four customers who somehow managed to hunt down and purchase this game in North America, despite our distributor's best attempts to keep the game's release a secret. (please note if your box says Football Manager 2005 you should download the FM patch http://www.sigames.com/downloads.php?type=view&id=236... Last edited by Godzilla Blitz : 12-22-2004 at 09:44 PM. |

GB, that's funny. But seriously, someone must be finding it - as of 10:30 EST almost 300 people have downloaded the patch from the SI website.
I appreciate your making sure my post was correct |
