Unhappy The Final Resting Place for All Smart Games

This is my first post on this forum but not my first in this realm. I have just started playing FOF after a year and half hiatus from the scorching atrocity of Sierra FBP1999.

I have played all the games posted here (FOF, Civ2, and FPS). The common theme is all three of these games are tailored for a more discerning gamer. We are not joystick jockeys or pre-teens or fair weather sports fans. We are smart, computer saive, and proactive involving what we want. That is the crux of the problem.

What happens is a new game is created by one of our own, FOF, probably the most noteworthy, and it takes the market by storm. Websites go up, communities are started, and word of mouth goes rampant. The problem then begins. A large publisher buy out the start up, and decides they would like to either take that market. The publisher is used to selling software to soccer moms, computer neophytes and game console wannabees and doesn't realize the true market of its purchase. We, in turn, fall in love and demand more for next year. We light the flame, that is fanned by the publisher and burns the original staff. The end game plays as follows, sequel is released even though quite adequate it is destroyed by it ravenous fan base who feel disillusioned and don't buy based on rumor. The publisher panics shuts down the title and realizes selling Barbie games and rodeo sports sell better and nobody cares if they don't work.

The saving grace is these games were always made by the fan for the fan and that won't go away. Sorry about the diatribe.

What was this post about? Why did it take over a year for a response?

hmm, think he's talking about fanboy's who hype up a game with a sequel coming out..

who then proceed to rip said sequel to shreds even though its clearly superior to the first version of said game..

but, that was a hard read for sure

See, what's really too bad is that no one here (except Bucc) is old enough - like my wisened self - to remember the classic sachmo70 model. With all the chrome and stuff? It was a sight to see.

Hope this helps,

4 years later this must be a relief for him to read this.

It's funny because you just did something that MrIllini always did back in 2002....
