Good Comics or Trade Paperbacks to Purchase
Got a $30 Gift Certificate to a local comic store.
I grew up reading X-Men and GI Joe. I fall into the 25-30 demographic. I've always been pretty loyal to Marvel, but have enjoyed watching JL and JLU on TV. One my favorite Marvel titles was the Marvel Handbook. Is there anything like that for DC? Are there any trade paperbacks that are really good for either side? I have Secret Wars (which I loved) both in issue form and trade paperback. Are there some others that have a good story and some BAB (Big A$$ Battles) in them? If you need more info on my tastes, let me know. |

I'm not to familiar with Marvel, but on the DC side Kingdom Come and it's sequel The Kingdom were good, as was The Dark Knight Returns. On the more story driven side is Watchmen, which is easily one of the best graphic novels ever written. Supreme was also very good, written by Alan Moore, the same guy who wrote Watchmen.

Y the Last Man is a really good comic....not really a superhero comic. It's about something happening to the men on earth. All of them die, except for Yorick, the protagonist.
30 Days of Night is a good TPB as well...it's about vampires in Alaska who take advantage of the 30 days of continuous night. The JLA TBPs are also good as well. |

If you can still find them - pick up the 6 issue run of Cla$$war by Com.X
I'd snag a copy of Gruenwald's Squadron Supreme, or Straczynski's take in the "Supreme Power" series in Marvel's Max line. Garth Ennis' "Punisher" run (the Max line version) is worth a look too. Get a copy of "Hawkworld", perhaps. "Golden Age", and "JLA/JSA: Virtue and Vice" were enjoyable reads.
