Harrick Jr Gets Canned and Dad does Nothing
Does anyone else find it wierd that Jim Harrick Jr got fired today and his Dad neither did nor said anything about it? I admit I don't know the whole story, nor do I pretend to. However, if I were the head coach and my son worked directly for me and had similar allegations against him I tend to think I would, if not taken his bullet, at the very least made a stand on principle against his firing.
Harrick Sr is the head coach and is responsible for both his team and staff. I have to think there was some kind of sacrifice he could have made to save his son. His son's college coaching career is effectively over. At the least he could have had a press conference and said something like, "I am the head coach. Any allegations against this program and my staff need to be directed at me, and me alone. If these allegations prove to be true I bear the full responsibility for any wrongdoing." Instead he lets his own son get canned without so much as a whimper. Like I said, when all the facts come out maybe this will all make better sense. But on the surface it sure looks like he hung his own son out to dry. Maybe there is a logical explanation, but I can't imagine it at this point.

Oh but he did say something about it! Did you see the Vitale interview last night? He said (paraphrasing here) I did nothing wrong, my son did nothing wrong and we will be totally vindicated. And today, the son gets fired... this is gonna be interesting to watch unfold.

I think everybody knows the kind of character that Jim Harrick has. Having his son get fired and staying quiet in a last-ditch attempt to cover his own ass is just the kind of thing I would expect from him. I bet he would rather his son be fired, blacklisted, and never be allowed to even attend another NCAA basketball game before he'd throw his own body in front of that bullet. That is exactly why they are in the kind of trouble that they are.

I liked how he claimed that ESPN didn't give him a chance to talk after they had shown Jeremy Schapp in a parking lot being told by Harrick to go away.

On ESPN it almost sounded like Dicky V didnt believe him and Vitale isnt exactly known as a tough interviewer.

OK, now that my true feelings have been supported by the gang. It sure as hell appears that Harrick is a first class SOB. I hate to think someone that far along in that kind of career could be like that, but there you have it.
I just can't imagine the kind of a-hole who would rather let his own son fry rather than fess up to any kind of culpability. If only Rick Neuheisal had a son old enough...

I agree. I think Vitale came across as a surprisingly good journalist, and I don't think he believes Harrick (with good reason). |

Anyone see SportsCenter last night wher they had a panel discussion last night by satellite w/ Jay Bilas, Murray Sperber (the guy who wrote the book condemning athletics), Jim Boeheim (who kept shouting over the ESPN guy that Sperber was full of crap) and Jerry Tarkanian in some sort of turban. I was in disbelief. It was like watching a MIke Tyson press conference.
