Fantasy Baseball Discussion
In a standard (very serious) Yahoo league.
Khalil Greene just became available on waivers (by a team scraping for closers). I'm #2 in the waiver order, so have a good change of being able to grab him, but I'm not sure who in my roster would be droppable, value-wise. Any thoughts? C Brandon Inge (also quals at 3B, OF) 1B Adam Dunn (also OF) 2B Luis Castillo 3B Adrian Beltre SS Jimmy Rollins OF Barry Bonds OF Corey Patterson OF Kevin Mench UT Erubiel Durazo BN Jack Buck (C) BN Coco Crisp (OF) BN Cristian Guzman (SS) SP Pedro Martinez SP Jake Peavy RP Latroy Hawkins RP Mike Adams P Javier Vazquez P Chris Carpenter P Brad Radke BN Kevin Millwood BN Zack Greinke Haven't set my starting lineup, so haven't decided between Crisp and Mench; and the various starting pitchers. The obvious choice is Jack Buck, but with Inge at C, I want a second option and think Buck has a good chance of breaking out after his solid second half (.263/6/17 in August, .274/5/12 in September). Any thoughts? Additional: LaRoche is also available on waivers, and I'm considering packaging Mench/Crisp and a pitcher a SP upgrade, moving Dunn to the OF, and picking up LaRoche (another solid candidate for a good season). Any thoughts on whether that might be worthwhile? Last edited by Celeval : 03-13-2005 at 10:52 AM. |

Why not just drop Guzman for Greene? Do you really need 3 shortstops on the roster?

I guess the question is, is Greene > Guzman? I'm thinking yes, unless Guzman ends up stealing 30 bases.

Greene and Guzman are very similar players stat wise. Greene will hit for a little more pop, say 15 HR to Guzmans 5-7 and 66 RBI to around 45-50. Don't expect Guzman to steal 30 bases. More like 10-15. If you look t his stolen base production from the past he has gone way downhill and swiped just 10 last year.
Personally, I dont think John Buck is going to break out yet. Maybe next year. But if you need some pop from your backup catcher, hold on to him. Get Greene for either Guzman or Buck. As for LaRoche, he should have a break-out year and if you can get him, go for it. Look for .280-20-70 from him.
