Pocket PCs

I'm looking to buy a pocket PC and I have no clue what to really look for. The price range I'm looking at is about $400-$550, but that's flexible. I would like to have Windows Mobile. Camera isn't necessary, would be nice I guess.

So which ones would you all recommend and why? Thanks a lot.

Funny. I am just in the middle of putting my Dell Axim X30 (wi-fi) up on ebay.

Great machine, but more than what I need at this moment. I would rec. looking at the dell units...perhaps even mine! hehe.

Oooh if you're looking to spend $550, I'd get the Dell Axim x50v. I had a first generation Dell Axim and LOVED it (long story of why I switched back to Palm). It's on sale at the moment, and fully customizable. If I had the money, I'd buy it.

Have an older iPaq and love it. The new HP models are better than mine for less money. But like I said, mines old and you can do better out there.

I went ghetto and got a Palm Vx on ebay earlier this week for $10 + $5 S/H (it's going to require use of a hairdryer and a $15 replacement battery to get it working)

But for $30, who can really complain

I'm in the iPaq camp as well. I've had a 3975 for three years, and I love it. My main use for it these days is as a GPS.

Well, the problem is that the Palms don't have a battery compartment. They want you to upgrade, not replace the battery.

(from a chat log the other night with daed- I'm presuming he doesn't mind this)
[03.16.2005:04:27] sterlingice: ooh. found instructions on how to fix the Palm Vx
[03.16.2005:04:27] sterlingice: all it requires is a hair dryer and small screwdriver
[03.16.2005:04:27] sterlingice: (and some gloves)
[03.16.2005:04:27] daed: that's . . . that's . . .
[03.16.2005:04:27] daed: interesting.
[03.16.2005:04:27] daed: sounds very mcgyver'ish.
[03.16.2005:04:27] daed: i think you left out the duct tape and the swiss army knife[tm].
[03.16.2005:04:27] daed: or is that implicit?
