UEFA Cup Final, from Estadio de Luz, Lisbon
Grazer AK 0:2 Atletico Madrid
-Jorge emerges from quiet to score twice for Atletico before halftime. GAK was frustrated in the second half, and it showed with the sending off in the 52nd minute of attacking midfielder Thomas Aigner. A near melee erupted late in the match, and another Grazer player was sent off in the 85th minute for a two-footed tackle. Atletico with their first major European win since winning the Super Cup in 1985.

Champions League Final, from Giorgis Karaiskakis, Piraeus
Barcelona 0:1 Roma
-Winger Mario Alberto Santana (an Argentinean, formerly playing for Palermo) scores in the 10th minute, a shot that seemingly goes right through the fingers of Barcelona keeper Antonio. Barcelona control the rest of the match, but can't beat Ivan Pelizzoli, and Roma win Europe for the first time ever.

FA Cup Final, from Wembley
Newcastle 0:2 Aston Villa
-The Villans with an easy win over the Magpies in front of nearly 90,000. Darius Vassell scored a slotted shot in the 23rd minute off a neat pass from Steed Malbranque... then Luke Moore finished it off in the 83rd with a volley off a corner kick. Newcastle didn't even manage to bother keeper Thomas Sorensen in the easy win for AV. So, as it turns out, we needn't have sweated our league position, if we had finished 7th. The Villa win means Southampton qualify for the UEFA Cup.

Hull win the Championship playoffs (1-0 over Wolves), and will join Birmingham and Coventry in the top flight next season.

8 of our players have been called up for the World Cup:
Sweden: Emil Jensen
USA: Carlos Bocanegra
Colombia: Libis Andres Arenas
S. Africa: Lebohang Mokoena and Thando Mngomeni
Ireland: Graham Stack
Slovenia: Dejan Robnik
Morocco: Talal El Karkouri

Financial report
Our surplus stands at $31 million. We are still about $8 million under our allowable $39 million wage budget. We also have a transfer budget of around $22 million. We really need to expand the stadium even more to increase our gate revenue, if we want to have any hope of keeping up this success (which the board has already approved, in addition to approving expansion of the training grounds). We lost a crapload of money last year ($14 million), mostly thanks to our increased wage budget.... a total of $14 million in the red. That will be cleaned up through our $24.5 million TV rights... and hopefully even more with European prize money. We had a surplus of $27.6 million going into last season, and finish this season with a surplus of $31 million... but we still lost money overall, considering our surplus was around $50 million after we received our TV money. We are having problems keeping our income matching our expenses. But having this large of a surplus should shield us from trouble for the foreseeable future.
