This has to piss people off too. A 20+2 on Party Poker, my best buddy and I are impared to the sky and decide poker is what we want to play. At this point we have been playing for about a half an hour when suddenly we notice a guys name is CARLTIME. We decide at his first bet, we will type 'its carltime!' and laugh. Then all hell breaks loose on the next four hands as I proceed to whoop ass.

SirFozzie: I'm still learning, so don't be annoyed by this question, but you're annoyed at the guy with the 2 clubs, right? Because a) he won against two good pairs and b) he should be raising or folding, right?

Simms: That's evil. That guy must have gone from the heights of happiness to the pits of despair in about 2 seconds.

The "infuriating" part for poker players in Fozzie's hand is that the guy beat recklesly before making his flush -- he went all-in with nothing but a draw, and a weak draw at that. At the point where everyone had their money in, he was a prohibitive underdog and got lucky.

Nothing drives experienced poker players more nuts than seeing someone put all their money in with nothing even close to the best hand unless it is a bluff. This wasn't a bluff -- he called the raises. Smart poker says you don't go all-in unless you think you have the best hand at that time. You don't want to be all-in and not have the best hand. Also, this was early in the tourney -- it's not like he was shortstacked and had to play.

Nothing makes experienced poker players happier than seeing someone put all their money in with nothing even close to the best hand.

I fixed that statement for you because it was dead wrong. The guy going all-in pre-flop with 9c 5c is EXACTLY what an experienced poker player should want to happen. Anyone frustrated by this is being far too results oriented. If there weren't guys that were willing to go all-in with 96s then you wouldn't win.

FWIW the guy with KK actually got luckier than the guy with 96s. The 96s hand had a better chance of winning against AA than 96s did. Of course no one would berate the KK guy for his play despite the fact that he was a bigger under dog when he got all his money in. Everyoen needs to stop thinking of things in terms of what the specific cards a player is holding are and just think in terms of what your EV is. If you are the AA guy here you would ahve lost to either hand. It was a worse beat from the KK than the 96s. It doesn't matter though you got your money all-in with a chance to triple up when you had the best of it. There is nothing more you can ask for.

What primelord said. It's annoying as hell when you lose to a hand like that, but you have to remember that in the long run that's a huge edge for you.

Also, The Afoci needs to drink more, he was playing way too well for someone who was drinking a lot and decided WTF lets play poker.

Agreed -- I left out an important caveat. Certainly plays like that are what "fish" do -- and I should know because I'm a fish.

I was trying to explain to flere why somebodying sucking out drives good players crazy. It made sense to him that 96s played well because he won. But winning obviously doesn't mean he played well -- he just got lucky.

It's the psychology to the player. Fozzie wouldn't have brought this up if KK had lost to AA because even though KK is a greater underdog to AA than 96s suited is, because KK is a far superior hand to 96s, not withstanding the third hand. On the other hand, the 96s guy probably thinks he made a good play and doesn't think he got lucky.

Even your amended statement isn't completely true. Although I will give you it is better than before. Your profit in poker comes from your opponents making mistakes. They chase huge under dogs. However it doesn't drive me that crazy when they hit. They are supposed to hit from time to time. It's a certainty that they will hit from time to time. So when it happens I shrug it off and move on.

I know you know this Matt. I am not really arguing here to try and convince you. It's just that I know there are always new players to the game lookign at these threads and I just think it is important to make sure statements like yours are clarified so that everyone understands the situation. No one likes to lose a hand, but if you have AA and you knew your opponent had 96s you want him to call an all-in. Many new players don't understand that and I just thought it was important to make that point clear.

Well, I feel it is the only way to level the playing field on Party Poker. Plus, with two of us drunk, we almost made a decent player.
