Eve Online
I was just invited to join the beta testing team for Eve Online, which is scheduled for release on the 6th of May. Are there any current beta testers here that might care to share their experiences so far in regards to this game? Any info would help me determine whether or not it would be worth my time. Thanks.

No. It is a space everquest type game like Earth & Beyond. If it had anything to do with porn I wouldn't have wasted my time asking about it here. I would have instantly signed up.

Yes, I'm a beta tester fo rit.
No, it's nothing like Everquest. First off, if you ever played X: The Frontier (or something like that) and liked it, you'll probably like this game. There's hardly any combat. It's all about commerce. When you start, all you can basically do is mine asteroids. After you make some money doign that, you can start trading. Trading is basically buying something for a low price at one station and then selling it for a higher price at another. You can buy ships, ship equipments, trade goods (what you buy and sell for trading), ore and minerals. You can also buy skills so that your character can do certain things. Like you can't have and use drones until you buy and train the skill. You can't buy and use a cruiser unless you have the skill to do so. And there are some skills that impove attributes, how fast you learn and do things, etc. You can also buy blueprints to create your own items and sell them. But right now, the part of the game seems to be broken. At some point, you'll also be able to buy implants for your character, but those aren't in yet. The game is pretty buggy. There's CTD's, lots of error messages, etc. But that's to be expected. You can buy weapons and you can fight other players. In fact, it's a total PvP enviroment. However, openign fire on another character for now reason will do 2 things. Destroy your security level so that cops will attack you, and 2) Will most likely prompt the guy you attacked (and killed) to put a bounty out for you. But, there are NPC pirates to go after once you buy some good weapons. All in all, I love the game. Since everything isn't implimented yet, it is pretty boring. For anyone looking for action, you won't find it here. You have to remember it's a commerce/business game above all else. So it's not going to appeal to a lot of people. And I really hope I didn't violate the NDA. |
