hungry for some breakfast?
Swanson's breakfast from hell
A pretty entertaining take on the new Swanson's TV breakfast packages. 231% of the daily recommended allowance of cholesterol? Damn... |

The food reviews there are always entertaining.
Truth is, that was a reasonable approximation of my standard breakfast for several years (minus the pancakes, add another 2 slices of bacon, add cheese to the eggs, double the potatoes, and add 4 slices of white toast soggy with melted butter). Biggest difference appears to be that mine was cooked to order instead of nuked.

In it's defense, that's only 231% of the daily recommended allowance of cholesterol.

How was your health during this period? Were you able to work off the calories and fat effectively? I had a period for a few months when I was between jobs where I started indulging in eggs and bacon breakfasts (typically with a fair amount of cheese and often with the eggs on pieces of bread). Now, granted, I wasn't particularly active at this point either which was a big problem, but I noticed I was starting to get a little soft around the middle. I'm pretty sure I'll have to be on a regular and reasonably intense workout routine before I can go back to eating a lot of eggs and bacon. |

My health has been fine for years, I'd be hard pressed to tell you the last time I saw a doctor, probably 4-5 years ago when I had a bout with what seemed to be bursitis in my shoulders. Otherwise, nothing unusual for the area, coughs/colds/seasonal allergies, a stomach bug if there's one going around, ditto with flu bugs & stuff, but nothing out of the ordinary. I'm about as physically inactive as a person can be & still be classified as alive, my weight stayed between 165 & 175 without fail (I'm 6'0"), and that would have been my breakfast roughly 3+ days a week for about 5 years running from the ages of 32-37. I must truly have the metabolism from hell. As an aside, minus that breakfast or any substitute for it in the past year, my weight remains at basically 170. Seemingly, I can eat that much or nothing at breakfast & make no changes to other meals & my weight isn't budged one way or another. I've pretty much been that way since a bout with a bleeding ulcer about, gosh, I guess that's been nearly 15 years ago dropped me from around 200 to about 155. Since then, no matter what I eat, I can't get my weight up past the low 170 area.

Count yourself lucky. I've had a similar metabolism for most of my life, but it seems to finally be slowing in my mid-30's - either that or I've become more sedentary than I realized. Probably a little of both. I haven't had a check-up, much less a physical in over a decade. While I'm in decent physical condition from the outside (5'11", 170#) I have no idea what my blood pressure or cholesterol readings are. I know I could be in better cardiovascular shape (time to start riding the bike again on a regular basis). I'm fairly certain if I ate that Swanson's breakfast on a regular basis I'd either have to work out like crazy or I'd start growing a jelly-belly. |

Take lots of aspirin. We already know it lowers your risk of heart attack. Now they're saying it can prevent cancer. To top it off, the "bad" side effect now seems to boost your metabolism. Sounds like a winner to me. |

It's one hell of a weight loss method, I can tell you that. But the side effects are a real bitch; nothing quite like losing consciousness from steady blood loss, or walking around 24/7/365 with a coppery taste in your mouth duplicated best by putting two pennies under your tongue & leaving them there, or having certain food drop you to your knees in pain (completes with serious tears in your eyes). On the whole, given a choice, I'd rather have been heavy. But if you're determined to try it, I'd recommend adding the following to your aspirin-based diet: Min. three 20 oz. Diet Mtn Dews in the first 6 hours of being awake, min. two LittleDebbie honey buns for breakfast, avg sleep <4 hours per day for 6 months or more, and find a job that compares unfavorably to shoveling horse shit with your bare hands. No guarantees of course, but it sure worked for me.

Great. Now I've got this mental image of JiMG that I can't shake. I now picture him as a skinny version of Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now, laying in the dark shadows, barely moving, muttering on and on about "the liberal horror..., the liberal horror..."

My breakfast this morning:
3 eggs scrambled with salsa in them 1 garlic bagel, toasted with a little bit of whipped butter (real butter) 2 smoked chicken & apple sausages, fried in olive oil 1 bowl of yogurt (Stonyfield. It's all natural) 2 cups of coffee I felt good after a lite meal!

I get that breakfast out of the grocer's freezer and chase my wife around the store with it. She gets physically ill even thinking about the "Breakfast of Death."
