Took the Netflix plunge...

well, for the time being anyways.

I think we're going to get a subscription for my mother-in-law for her birthday, and I figured I'd try it out first in case she needed help with ordering and stuff. Looks like she won't though - the site seemed pretty easy to use.

I don't imagine we will keep it for long (we don't watch enough movies to justify it), but who knows. I have to admit I was surprised that of the 22 movies I put in my queue to start, 21 were in stock (including 8 Mile and lots of other recent ones).

Picked a lousy time to do it, though - with the NHL playoffs being around the corner, I don't plan on watching too many DVDs for a while.

I love Netflix. We're trying to save money these days, and I've found that the fact that we get essentially unlimited DVDs keeps us at home more often than we used to.

I happen to live very close to a distribution center, so I get very quick turn-around on the movies. And you never have to leave the house. If only there was a beer and porn delivery service close by I'd be in heaven.

I don't watch that many movies either, but I love the convenience of it. I like always having 3 movies laying around to watch whenever I want and not having to worry about getting out to the video store to return them.

seriously, I looked around to see if Netflix did the porn flicks - I could retire my trenchcoat, wig, and sunglasses.

I just re-joined after about a year "off" the service. It seems quite apparent to me that they've really expanded to fit their customer base. Living in Jersey I was turned off by the 3 days shipping time from Cal, but I see they've added a bunch more shipping centers. They also seem to have more copies of everything, since none of the 40 movies I just put in have any sort of wait.

I'm back into watching 2+ movies a month, so for 21.50 a month I more than get my money's worth.

I really hope services like this will take off and force blockbuster to bring prices back down to normal. Plus even if I was paying the same amount to rent online, Netflix has a gigantic selection by comparison. Basically everything you would want is always in stock.

I was thinking of getting Netflix for just liek a month or two because there are a bunch of "not-well-known" or "not-so-popular" movies I'd liek to watch that Blockbuster never has...

I don't understand the math on this.
