Good question. The way Strat works is:

If you played even 1 inning of 1 game at a position, you are ranked defensively for that position.

Thus Lazerri is rated for 3b.

As for your second question about why he is being used there

The team he plays for lacks a 3b. The only 2 players who are rated to play the position are Lazerri and Sewell (predominately a SS). Plus Lazerri isn't as good at second at Gehringer.

I didn't split the players on each team - SOM did. Foxx, who played in this era and also played 3b is on the Left Out team, because he qualifies as a Cather and each team has at least 2 catchers (Foxx is the Left Outs backup at that position).

Does this answer you question?

QUICK EDIT - The HOF cards take the best 7 years of a players career and average them out.

yes that answers it.

I just think they really luck out with SOM giving Lazzeri the ability to play 3rd when the era didn't really have a stud 3rd baseman.

Where's Frank Home Run Baker? Pie Traynor? they should be on the team before we force Lazzeri to play 3rd b/c at least they were full time 3rd basemen.

Edit : Baker is on the dead-ballers

Home Run Baker is on the Deadball team.

Traynor is on the NL Pre WWII (I think).

Foxx could have been the 3b for this team. That would have been freightning adding him to Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, et. al.
