5 Card draw Question?
Assume a 6 player game for each question Assume a standard 52 card deck is used, and there are no wild cards.
What are the odds of a 3 of a kind in 5 card draw? What are the odds of 3 people hitting a 3 of a kind in one hand? What are the odds of 3 hands in a row with someone hitting a 3 of a kind?

I knew discrete math would come in handy somewhere. Let's see...from my calculations, the odds of drawing 3 of a kind in a 5 card draw is 4512/2598960, or .0017 - less about 2/10ths of 1%. Having 6 people in the hand I would say it's roughly 1% having someone draw a 3 of a kind. Of 3 people hitting 3 of a kind in a single hand...it would roughly be .0017 * .0017 * .0017. Pretty much the same for having the same guy get 3 of a kind 3 hands in a row. My figures might be a little off - but you're dealing with something pretty ding dang impossible from the looks of it.

dola - another way to think of it - 1 in every 500 hands will get 3 of a kind. For a table of 6, that's 6/500 or 1 out of every 83 deals.
