He is, but the relevance of the 4-in-1 is that it makes it much easier to play the PS2 Guitar Hero games on the PS3, so there's that. Also, the GHIII guitar only works with Rock Band if you're playing the Xbox 360 version. On PlayStation 3, neither guitar is compatible with the competitor's game. |

While it's a decent fix for the DLC issue, I still much prefer the option to choose which songs I'd like to have rather than a disc of 20 preselected songs. I think the DLC option with the 360/PS3 is what should continue to drive RB sales on those two consoles. |

I just wanted to chime in (again) on how much fun I'm (still) having with the game. Thanks to Scrubs & Rock Band, I've discovered the band Boston. Not my kind of music normally...but their stuff is amazing. The guitar solos are just awesome. I've downloaded 3 of their songs. "Peace of Mind" is truly sweet. Me & my girlfriend have been walking around singing the chorus for the past several days. She even had a copy of their self-titled album (with all the Rock Band songs on it). I've really been enjoying it.
It's cool all the music I've discovered since I played Rock Band. My current downloadable faves are: Boston-More Than A Feeling Boston- Peace of Mind All-American Rejects-Dirty Little Secret Glados-Still Alive Blink 182-All The Small Things I seriously played those 5 songs (sprinkled in with some others) for about 2 hours the other day. All of this while GTA just came out. I love singing & playing guitar. Yesterday I got 100% on medium while singing & playing guitar on "Dirty Little Secret" It was a proud day |

Moohahaha I got the Nyko guitar that plays both Rockband and Guitar Hero on PS3 for my bday last night. Not only does it rule because it plays both games but the fret buttons are like the GH guitars (which I greatly prefer)

I just got Rock Band over the weekend. I thought I was going to be the drummer, but my wife immediately took the drums and left me on guitar. I still had a lot of fun.
One question: In World Tour mode, can members of the band roster move around to different instruments? We couldn't figure out how to take the drummer that she created and move her over to singer. We ended up just creating another character to be the singer, and we left the drummer on "absent."

On World Tour, you create the "leader" and that person/instrument must always be present for the band to play. You cannot transfer the characters between instruments as far as I know.

I'll add my own Rock Band music discovery story.
I once knew a douche-bag who would, whenever a Rush song came on at a bar, say "RUSH!" in an overly loud and excited manner and proceed to play air drums. I've since avoided all things Rush, but since Rock Band I am now completely hooked. I won't be looking up the douche-bag any time soon to hang out, but I now have a much better understanding of where he was coming from. "RUSH!"

quick headsup for anyone interested in getting the game for PS2, it's now at $60 off at bestbuy, selling it for $99.99:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....9&type=product same thing for canadian customers with futureshop http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...10096820&catid= I've read on redflagdeals.ca that the instruments are the same for the PS2 and PS3 and some people with PS3 just traded in the software and went and bought only the game for PS3. I cannot confirm it myself, simply reporting what I've read. FM

apparently PS2 Rock Band has been dropped to $100 about everywhere and we took the plunge the cheap way yesteday. I got us a PS2 bundled with Guitar Hero III for $200 and Rock Band for said $100. Couldn't afford one of the new consoles so I decided I'd settle for the PS2 for now and would go back and hunt for Guitar Hero I and II and the 80's at some point and will look at the upcoming GH with the drums when it comes out in the Fall, sice it's set to come out for the PS2 too. And for now, we can play Rock Band with two guitars and a drum, family style.
Was surprised to see still many games shedules to come out for the PS2 until the end of the year. At least enough big names (especially superhero wise with a new Spider-Man game, new Marvel Ultimate Alliance and such) that my son will have time to build a solid shelf of game at affordable prices (PS2 games are cheaper at launch than the new gen consoles). If you can still find it, Guitar Hero 80s can be had at Radio Shack for $20.

sadly, there are no Radio Shack in Canadia anymore. Well, they got bought by Circuit City I think. Anyway, they are now know as The Source by Circuit City. Just checked radioshack.com and wow, they're showing it as a "store only" offer but it's at $14.97. Any good friend from FOFC has seen it in a Radio Shack near them lately? If so and if said good friend wouldn't mind the trouble of buying a copy and shipping it by the cheapest postage available, I would paypal over the money. Please get in touch via PM if willing to help. Back to the games, rocking with my son is a lot of fun and even playing either RB or GH by myself after he's gone to bed was a good deal of fun. FM

What is scaled down? If you haven't played RB previously, would you notice the difference? I'm thinking of getting this for our Wii, we have GH3 already and my son loves it, he wants a 360 so he can have RB, but if it's any good on the Wii, it'd be significantly cheaper to buy it that way. Any reviews/opinions would be great! |

No online play, no DLC, but otherwise it should be functionally the same as the PS3/360 versions. Lack of HD resolutions means it won't look quite as nice, but that's aesthetics, not functionality. |

from what I've read, the Wii version is scaled down in the sense that it's similar to the PS2 version, i.e. no downloadable content, and the world tour is not as customizable as it is with the PS3/360 versions. I'd think your son would enjoy it anyway, especially having not played the other version. I know my 11yo son loves it very much and rocking with him is a whole lot of fun... FM

yeah, what he said. I should have waited for the pros to say something... If I may add, aesthetics are really not as important with a game like Rock Band, it's all about gameplay, and this game is addictive as all hell. FM

The downloadable content is very huge to me, so I'd say if you're thinking about buying a 360/PS3, hold off and get Rock Band on one of those systems. A buddy of mine bought RB and a PS3 this weekend after I told him how the Wii has no DL ability.

I'd really like to get a 360, but the whole red ring of death thing just really scares me...I know how pissed I'll be if I have to deal with microsoft and their "customer service". He hasn't really shown any interest in the PS3, though I'm sure if I said "would you like one", he'd say yes in half a second. His b'day is in September, we might wait until then and splurge on a new console for him...
Thanks for the input guys! |

One thing I've noticed about kids while working at Best Buy is that, yeah, they'll jump all over it if Mom or Dad is making a whimsical purchase of a console. They'll back their parents to the hilt on an unexpected buy of a game system. If, on the other hand, they have it in their heads that they can get a game system, and they want one in particular, they will resist their parents' efforts to convince them that the other one would be cool. Saw that happen with a 10 y/o boy who wanted a 360, while his dad thought it would be cool to get a PS3 - the kid could play games, the dad could watch Blu-ray. The boy, I think, feared that if he let his Dad buy a PS3, hopes of getting a 360 would be out the window. "You already have a PlayStation, what do you need with that other machine?" Depends on how you've framed the discussion in the past and moving forward, I guess. |

Cool, I even recognize 2 or 3 of those songs.
Rock Band definitely introduced me to some cool new songs I'd never have listened to otherwise (discovering the Ramones, for example), but as I've progressed deeper into the song list I'm enjoying the music less and less. Not sure how interested I'll be in Rock Band 2 aside from some features, although at least I can bring my Boston, Jimmy Buffett, and Monkees DLC along...

All Rock Band 1 DLC will work in Rock Band 2 in case you didn't know. Or maybe you were being tongue-in-cheek Either way, good news for Rock Band. Just the sheer number of songs (75) is a huge thing. This is something new, also...releasing the song list before the game is out. 2 MONTHS before the game is out. That's a new standard. Looking forward to September! |

Hence my statement that at least I can play them. So yeah, I understand that, but it's still only a handful of songs. I do look forward to the Journey and Survivor and some of the others in the RB2 set. I remain shocked that with NASCAR, etc, there isn't a "Country Band" version yet. Or given my kids' interest in banging on drums and grabbing the microphone, where is the Kidz Bop version? Someone wants to challenge these guys, that's where I'd hit them. Or they could get around to it. I just think limiting yourself to hard rock except in DLC limits the audience a bit. As I said, my wife and I enjoyed the first part of the Band World Tour, and discovered some new music we would not have otherwise, but once we started getting hit with Beastie Boys and Iron Maiden and the like we started just trying to get through the songs. The DLC has been our saving grace so far...
