Really hope his mother gets put away for this now. Why she hasn't been charged is infuriating.

No. Here's the deal. The lawyer is trying to make this out like it is some exceptional case. It is not. A lawyer for a criminal defendant often has to file things for his client that might contain information that he would rather the public not know: whether he is cooperating with police (i.e. snitching); personal medical information; personal financial information; identifying information about minor children, etc. The move there is NOT to knowingly file something fraudulent with the Court. You should instead move the Court to allow you to file it under seal and to explain why you need to. And then the Court grants that or denies it. Here, the lawyer should have moved the Court. He could have said, "Judge, this is a high profile case, and here are some threats made against my client, so we will tell the Court his address, but can we please redact it on the public document?" And then the Court does what it does with that. Probably would have granted it. Courts don't want defendants killed or harassed by vigilantes. I guess the point I want to get across here is that this is not some "once in a hundred years this comes up" thing, so the lawyer didn't know how to handle it. This is common, and this lawyer knew better (or should have). Ironically the lawyer may have Streisand Effected this for his client. People who had forgotten who Rittenhouse was are now going to find his house and harass him because him wanting to keep the address secret has become such a big deal. Finally, the "a cop told us to do this" thing isn't a valid excuse. I had a client convicted of illegal gun possession who had been told (mistakenly) by an officer that he could possess that gun. It was a very sympathetic fact, but it did not make him innocent. And while a layperson could be confused by that, a lawyer should not be. |

What a surprise. Hate crime where the white guy is somehow captured unharmed after murdering 8 people.

Women in these spa's were already likely victims of human trafficking to begin with, then to lose their lives to some racist a-hole is just further insult. I just can't understand the hatred. Why?

We have a thread entitled the "Wuhan coronavirus" so I think we get it pretty well. There is a ton of anti-Asian sentiment these days that may or may not fit the ADL and/or Websters definitions of racism and prejudice.

But it is so stupid. Not just that, but it makes zero sense that the very people who will claim that Covid is fake are the very ones that will use it as an excuse to kill Asian people. I mean it is really just any excuse to pour hate on the "other." I just can't fathom that kind of darkness in the soul.

And our factory farms are very likely to spin off the next pandemic. It's not like our shit doesn't stink. Sure, we don't eat bats, but we do plenty of stuff that has terrible consequences. We're losing antibiotics because factory farms pump their animals full of them because otherwise the animals couldn't survive the terrible conditions they live in. Would you like some superbugs with your burger and fries, sir?

Isn't the sheriff just repeating speculation? I am curious. What would be acceptable evidence that it was racially motivated?

Doesn't the evidence already effectively say this was racially motivated? The dude was a customer at all of these places, so either he was particularly focused on buying sex from Asian women/businesses, or he bought/got sex from all types of women but only murdered Asians (although it appears he injured people from ALL races, they were just in an Asian-owned business).

Look, the guy was just having a bad day. Let's give him a halo to eat and ask him not to do it again. We've all been there. Just the other day I hit my funny bone TWICE and I lashed out by only tipping $2 on an $8 takeout at the local bbq joint.

That statement has to be one of the most perplexing I have ever heard. Talk about complete lack of empathy for the victims. Unbelievable that someone acting as a spokesman and especially in the capacity of Sheriff would utter such bullshit. |

And for the record, don't doubt that these were sex shops. I have a friend who managed an Adult Shop not 100 yards from the two places in north Atlanta. This whole area is a very heavy sex-worker area. Several spas, adult stores, lingerie model shops and strip clubs.

I'll just note that Atlanta is well known for its strip clubs and there is quite a bit of sex work. Of all races. But this shooter targeted Asian massage parlors.
It also turns out Cherokee County Sheriff has shared anti Asian stuff on Facebook before - so it seems convenient to play it down. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...-anti-n1261359 Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk

Looking at the video of the crime scene it sure looks like everything sex is grouped together. I don't think I've ever seen spas bunched up like that.

Well, two were across the street from each other. Woodstock is about 30 minutes away. The police had probably just started the investigation in Woodstock by the time he hit the two spas in Atlanta.

So as far as I can tell there's been zero word about any social media writings by the shooter. You would think that anyone willing to go on a killing spree probably had some strong opinions about something. I wonder if there's a manifesto they're holding back for some reason.
And has anything been said about how and when he got his gun?

Read the transcript for yourself (if it hasn't been posted already).
Anyone who doesn't get the context being used for the "bad day" comment has never been in one of those press conferences. It reads exactly the way I suspected it would .. having been through countless press conferences (with the very department that statement came from, tho many spokesmen ago). Paraphrasing suspect interview is so common in those settings its what I expect, exponentially more common than any direct quote. Nor would it even be common for any spokesman to feel the need to clarify that they're paraphrasing, any reporter with 2-3 of those under their belt can tell what's being done when it happens. Does anyone else find it hypocritical that Democrats are decrying anti-asian racism while favoring anti-asian discrimination in college admissions?

This Asian does not. And also knows white folks are trying to use Asians for their own benefit in affirmative action cases.
Not to mention Asians vote a good deal more for Democrats than Republicans should tell you all you need to know. Shall we compare the Democratic Asian reps in Congress to the Republican Asian reps? Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk

The Chauvin trial has entered the medical phase. As horrible as the video was, I still honestly believed that Chauvin was probably going to walk. Mostly just based on history. From what I have seen so far, I just don't see any way he isn't convicted. They may still only convict him for manslaughter, but I think that is the least he will get.

There is also this precedent in Minnesota. If Chauvin walks when Noor did not (and they both were/should be rightfully convicted) all hell would break loose.
