If anyone offers me $37 million guaranteed for any legal job, I am going to take it. So I don't want to be overly critical here.

But I wonder if Oswiler's long term earnings/career/legacy/whatever would have been better taking whatever Denver was offering and having Kubiak coach him in a much more stable organization for a few years to really develop into a top tier guy.

i doubt denvers offer was too far off. just crazy to leave the defending champs, where you spent 4 years training for the job

houston does have a good D, but, he must've been scared to take over manning's legacy?

Rapoport: Vernon to the Giants.

edit to add more from Rapoport: For Olivier Vernon and the #Giants, I'm told it's the biggest defensive end deal in history with the most guaranteed money

edit #2: 5/$85MM, with $52MM guaranteed

Holy schnikes

4 years and $72 million for Osweiler? Heck, even Scott Mitchell and Matt Flynn have to be impressed. There is no way Brock is worth that kind of money. Kudos to Denver for not buckling under the pressure and paying him. I'd take Fitzpatrick for 2 years and try my hand at grooming someone from the draft. You could also trade for someone like Kaepernick or a backup some place. As the playoffs showed, Denver just needs a C at QB to have to shot.

I like Brock but I have no problem with them not paying more. I think the fact that he made it to free agency without signing a deal was an indication he wanted to look elsewhere.

Your plan would work just fine with me.

I think the most surprising news of the day is that Manziel is still with the Browns.

Clearly Jerry knows he's next if this team doesn't get it done.

I do like the talent there. Vernon, JPP, Harrison and Hankins is a pretty good unit....especially if they can resign Ayers. And Jenkins is a nice upgrade over Prince.

Bet TC wishes they spent like that for him.

someone wanted to pay two non #1 receivers like it...fine, and Jones was one of the best CBs in football last year. no problem with their moves.

Losing Marvin Jones will hurt, but Sanu never developed into the reliable receiver I thought he could be. He's not worth the money he will get in this market.

Yes, I hate Pacman too, but I'm fine with re-signing him. I

I think I remember some blabber during the offseason that the Browns had used some NFL financial mechanism to like move into the next fiscal season early and that somehow affected the timing of when they could cut Manziel.

They rolled over their cap space meaning they were unable to cut him I believe. Not sure why but that's what I remember.

I'm thinking with the signings of Jones and Iloka and the losses of Sanu and Marvin, the Bengals are liking what they see from the WR class. I bet they draft 4 or 5 LB/WR in this draft. The 6M per season price tag for Iloka is very easy to swallow too.

Already looks to be a bit of a sellers market in FA, eh? I mean I guess it always is, but it seems like the lack of talent hitting the market this year (and the new cap $) has resulted in lots of second-tier players getting surprisingly big money deals.

The word in town here is they offered him three years at 16 million per year with 16 mill guaranteed . He apparently did not want to run the Kubiak offense where he couldn't be the big star throwing the ball 40-45 times a game. Also, it has now been reported he obviously did not want to be here and was pissed about being benched when he couldn't man up. I say good riddance.

Nah draft our guy maybe in the 2nd to 4th round and groom him. We are in a mini rebuilding sort of a slow roll back into a ramp I think in a year or two.

Ivory to the Jags is a real head scratcher for that money. Decent player but you can probably draft the exact same guy in the fourth round and pay a fifth of the price.

Didn't hate the Jackson price for an impact player, but that Ivory deal is going to look pretty bad IMO, especially as his running style means he is taking a ton of damage

The last few years, the cap has grown far faster than the perception (even from agents) of a reasonable salary. The Osweiler offer doesn't surprise me at all. If Denver really wanted him back, they would have kept him. Teams have room to make these offers where there's a short supply.

Yep....that's why I'm not surprised nor upset about some of the seemingly overpaid contracts the Giants doled out today.

Obviously Vernon is not JJ Watt, but the cap space is there for a highly needed passrusher. Same with Jenkins at CB and Brock at QB. The inexplicable contract is Bradford to me, as the Eagles were bidding against themselves there but even so, it's only 2 years.

So the big concern for a team spending big at this point seems to be more about profitability....and I'm far less concerned (read: not at all) about that.

When your team drafts 2 pro bowlers in the past 8 years, you don't have much choice but to sign the best you can get of players that other teams are willing to discard. On rare occasions those teams make mistakes with their evaluations (and signing former Dolphins players seems like a good bet to take a chance on), but I think these moves should be classified as trying to do the best they can in suboptimal circumstances.

Yup. Clearly.

Brock Osweiller did what's best for him : $37M guaranteed money vs $17M guaranteed <-- seems like an abvious no-brainer

Denver did what they thought was best for them : not invest in someone they apparently do no trust "that much". Might be easier for them not to pay for Osweiller since they just won a SuperBowl.

Saints have lots of holes on defense, no starting quality guards, and limited cap room. So they just signed Coby Fleener to 5/36.

Underwhelmed.

Carolina cut DE Charles Johnson last week to save $11 million in cap space. He ended up turning down a $6 million offer from the Giants and has signed a $3 million 1 year deal to return to Carolina.

Sort of, I was typing some semi-nasty stuff about Pacman Jones, then deleted all of it except the "I" under threat of possible shiv.

Falcons sign Sanu.

Not sure why they're paying an average #3 like he's a #2 but I guess if you've got cap space then it's gonna get spent.

Mike Silver is reporting Kaep is either going to Cleveland or Denver. They were reporting 49ers had agreed to compensation and they are trying to restructure his contract. But sounds Cleveland is offering more than Denver is in draft Ickes. Also we got interest in Alfred Morris. I would be happy replacing Osweleirr and CJ with those two.

Fine with Kaepernick depending on the compensation but they can draft a running back in the middle rounds who would be as good or better than Morris
