The Rodriguez thing was funny, but WVU isn't trying to get out of paying the exit fee, and they're willing to pay above the exit fee to get out of the 27 month thing, which is what will happen. The lawsuit is merely about getting the wheels moving now and getting a little leverage in the negotiations for how much WVU will pay to settle it.
WVU didn't try to prevent Rodriguez from coaching at Michigan, they just made him pay what his contract stated he would. He wanted to pay nothing. He broke the contract and had to pay. WVU is breaking the contract and will pay. That's all. |

So....has Missouri accepted The Big East's offer yet?
Sounds like a perfect match - a team without a conference, and a conference without a team.

Umm - the exit timing wasn't 27 months back then. And Virginia Tech (nor Miami or BC) didn't sued the conference. They negotiated a buyout that both sides felt was at least reasonable. Last edited by dzilla77 : 11-04-2011 at 02:04 PM. |

Well, if Boise State and Air Force both leave the MWC is fucked. I don't care how many of these secondary conferences merge together, they won't be taken seriously without at least 1 or 2 good football programs; which they won't have with the departure of TCU, BSU, and AF.

The MWC is fucked even if Boise State leaves TBH. Air Force is just the icing on the kick. It'll make the conference so bad, C-USA will actually look better.

I don't get it - the MWC is far and away a better conference than the Big East is at this point. Why not just ride it out for a year and then Boise gets to stay in their conference close to home and most likely get the AQ?

The BE has AQ status for another couple of years and will probably keep it if BSU joins along with someone else (or they keep someone like Louisville). There is no guarantee that the MWC will ever obtain AQ status, and to be honest, this is really just another stop for BSU to a better conference. I would be shocked if they remained in the BE any longer than necessary.

Indeed. Much easier to KEEP AQ status than to get it in the first place.

Yeah I'm not faulting Boise State for this. Just pisses me off seeing the conference get ruined is all, especially compared to what might have been had BYU/TCU/Utah stayed.

Totally getcha on that. I remember a couple of years ago when BSU was talking about joining the MWC and the possibility of playing TCU/AF/BYU/Utah looked very good. The MWC and BE are shells of their former selves and it isn't going to get better.

The MWC isn't going to get AQ. They're won't make the cutoff to petition for it, either. That's why teams that want an AQ are jumping ship. There's no mechanism for removing AQ status from a conference, so despite all of the bishing about it, the BE is unlikely to lose their AQ unless the conference dissolves football.

This was expected. WVU filed suit first for that very reason and has the upper hand. Neither of these suits will every see a courtroom. If that happens, all of the communications for both parties can be requested by reporters. Neither side will let it reach that point. This is posturing and little more. |

Big East and WVU are already in the negotiating stage of things.
Word is that the Big East opened with $32.5M to leave after this season. They reportedly had offered Pitt and/or Syracuse $20-21 million (believed to be anticipated lost revenue + $5 million agreed upon buyout). Most people think they will settle for around that figure and it has been suggested that the Big 12 has agreed to pay a portion of WVU's buyout from the A&M/Missouri buyout funds. |

The 2 parties are as far apart as you can be. WVU wants out now, the Big East wants them to stay til 2014, with the other 5 football schools (Rutgers, UL, Cincy, UConn and USF) needing them to stay for scheduling reasons.
Now if WVU and the other 9 Big 12 teams want to fill the 2 holes the other Big East teams have in their schedule, then maybe something can be worked out.

As Swaggs already noted, they're pretty far along in the process. The lawsuits are grandstanding and little else. The Mizzou/WVU situation in the B12 has to be resolved by Dec. 1st. Both the B12 and the Big East risk losing millions in TV contracts if those two schools don't make their respective moves by that point. I think you'll be surprised how quickly the 'as far apart as you can be' will be settled. |

Yeah, but the problem is the Big East is already going to lose millions when WVU leaves since ESPN will reduce the Big East football contract from 16M to 6M for the last 2 years, and who knows what they'll do with basketball. Maybe a small reduction. It does the Big East no good to let anyone leave early.

The Big East offered both Pitt and Syracuse a chance to leave immediately at a cost of $21 million. WVU is looking for the same opportunity. The Big East doesn't want this to actually get into the courtrooms. They'd have to explain how the basketball schools were looking out for the best interest of the football schools by pushing for the addition of Villanova and their 18k seat soccer stadium. They'll have to explain why Notre Dame is leading the expansion search while talking to every conference out there to make sure their non-football sports have a home in case the Big East falls apart. They'll have to explain why the TV deal was turned down which led to the departures of Syracuse and Pitt. The Big East is in negotiations with WVU on an exit fee. The lawsuits are filed to speed up the process and try to make sure no side has leverage over the other. Everything being said is posturing. No one at WVU seems to think there's even the slightest chance they're still in the Big East on July 1st. |

I think we can hold off on the crow eating until someone other than a Texas board is reporting something unflattering about OU. I'm not saying it won't happen but I can't really go with the source there.

I'm pretty sure you're mistaken - I've definitely seen about 2,000 posts here saying they've left for somewhere. Sorry, lame joke, not funny, but it has all gotten so entirely old. I guess at least it's gone from "everyone's waiting for Missouri" to "Fuck it, Missouri's retarded, let's just go.." I'm starting to develop the irrational hatred for them everyone else here that I've previously laughed at and resisted. And I'm starting to think all of this is really about "LOOK AT ME" from a a program with an inferiority complex. Last edited by molson : 11-05-2011 at 11:09 AM. |

As a Mizzou fan I feel the opposite. I'm starting to develop an irrational hatred to to the detractors even added one peron to my ignore list. I'm starting to feel the inferiority complex is coming from everyone else who is jealous their program is stuck in the Big 12, Big East o somewhere else while Mizzou has earned a get out of jail free card.
If this statement is proven wrong, ban me from FOFC forever: The holdup of Mizzou to the SEC is tied to the legal issue of the Big 12 having at least 10 teams. Don't know what more you people want. The Big 12 put out a press release saying we are gone. The SEC put on their website we are in. The hold up is the Big 12 tv contracts are contingent on 10 teams, and until WVU signs on the dotted line, Mizzou and the SEC are unwilling to be responsible for the Big 12 losing their tv contracts. I get jealousy and I get that MBBF isn't the most popular amongst ome of you. But the venom and hatred is really starting to piss me off. Missouri isn't doing anything any other school in the country has been doing. It's every school for itself. |

5,000 fewer posts and insider blog reports about where Missouri is going until they're actually going somewhere. It's not your fault, or Missouri's fault, it's easy enough to ignore that stuff, and I completely acknowledged it was irrational. I'm just being real. I don't get why Missouri fans aren't annoyed with it as well. We've had dozens (if not hundreds) of posts here giving actual timelines about when Missouri is making announcements for things and leaving for things. It's a big joke. Missouri was a faint blip on my radar until they've turned into this FOFC and "insider blog" running joke. And this goes back years, culminating perhaps in the college basketball coaching situation last year and all the blog reports and "done deals" that were all over the place about that that were all wrong. (Oh, and I love when those same garbage blogs are used to take shots at other teams' fanbases, as we saw a few posts up.) I have no rational dislike of Missouri or anything. I'm sure its a fantastic place to live and go to school. If I posted 10,000 Syracuse posts from garbage blogs, where 9,999 of them were inaccurate, I'm sure people would start to associate Syracuse with annoyance and ineptitude as well, or just amusement (more so than they do already). They'd be a big joke in this small FOFC world, and perhaps among people who follow this stuff closely online. It would not though, change anything about the school, or about the people that went there, or the people that live in the city. LOL. OK, I felt a little bad about being on your ignore list apparently now, but whatever. HAHAHAHA. Last edited by molson : 11-05-2011 at 12:42 PM. |

Yep, I see fans of other schools regularly posting gems like this:
Quote:
It isn't Mizzou that is being made fun of, it is a poster writing about Mizzou. One person in particular has almost 12%(!!!) of the posts in this thread, more than the #2 and #3 posters combined. And instead of a light bulb going off and maybe getting a clue, this poster continues to double down on the stupid.

lol, that's true. I do love that we didn't talk about SU conference movement until after the announcement. I think the reactions to Missouri (nice school and place) is that they were made out to be something far more special and elite than they actual were. Missouri is a lot like many other programs, no more, no less. So don't go around a message board acting like they are some fucking prima donna. |
