I’m pretty sure that David Tepper just won by getting that stupid (“immovable “) Jerry Richardson statue removed forever.

The timing of Newton's signing was just coincidental to the announcement of the punishment, I'm sure.

Cam's a top-10 QB if he's healthy.

This could be the move of the offseason.

Both Cam and Belichick have a lot to prove. Cam wants one more mega deal. Belichick wants to prove he can win without Brady (which he already did with Matt Cassell, but that was a long time ago and no one seems to talk about it, which is honestly kind of weird considering how much we talk about the Patriots).

I don't think Cam's healthy, but there's plenty of evidence he (or the Panthers, but I think it was more on Cam) was hiding injuries & trying to play through them for years now, so I hope to be proven wrong! I still think it's just as likely Stidham is starting as Cam, but based off Scarnecchia's interview they were already planning to build back in parts of the offense that took advantage of Stidham's mobility vs Brady, so Newton isn't a stylistic deviation.

It really is crazy that a 31 year old former NFL MVP QB just signed a minsal deal where the incentives only go up to $7.5 million. If this happened in FOF we'd be saying the game was broken

Yeah, I can’t shake the feeling it would be a very Belichick thing to do to cut him before he ever sees the field for the Pats. Whether that’s because his shoulder is still completely shredded, he doesn’t fit the system after all or Bill’s coffee is cold one morning. I’m still thinking Stidham is the week one starter as planned and this is a zero risk roll of the dice.

The pressure is really strong on the Washington football team to change their name. FedEx, the sponsor of their stadium, has publicly asked for it, and Nike is refusing to sell their merch online.

So they have decided to thoroughly review the name (which people believe is a code that they've decided to change it):

We wouldn't feel that way if he had a large ratings reduction from the injuries...

How much money could they get for changing the team name to “Washington Federal Express”. Let the fans have “redskins” on bootleg apparel you can ban from the stadium. Slightly redo the logos and put Washington’s profile instead of the Indian. Make bank.

FedEx probably wouldn't be a fan - they don't want to be tied that much to Snyder, lol. The USFL Washington Generals was a good name, I wonder if they can buy the rights.

Though if they did go with a generic Washington Federals, they could be nicknamed 'the Feds', which would be cool.

So beside the black anthem, will there a white, latino, asian, and somoa anthem playing too?

If the NFL does have a season this year I won't be watching it.

I find it incredible how many people have never heard of Lift Every Voice and Sing as the black national anthem. It's like y'all don't hang out with Black Church folk or something.

I love how what happens before a televised game that you likely do not see somehow dictates your enjoyment. It's like, man, they are putting black lives matters sign in the locker room, I'll never watch again. What if they start playing My Country Tis of Thee or This Land is Your Land? Will your aversion be similar?

If D.C. becomes a state, they may rename it since we already have a Washington state. So I wouldn't focus too much on the alliteration with the W sound when coming up with a name.

Progressing will not be costless for the NFL. For example, there was a local BBQ place out here with a lot of TVs that banned playing any NFL games a few years ago when Kapernick started protesting police brutality. These things really do happen.

On balance, I think that the NFL will gain and keep more fans by taking the progressive side on social justice issues as the decades go on. But there is a reason that the league has had to be reluctantly pulled in that direction. Because they are going to lose some long-time fans (who demographically have a lot of money to spend on things like the NFL) by doing it.

I didn't mean it won't happen, I just question the sanity of people who judge whether or not a game is entertaining by what happens before you can even see it on TV.

And probably 95% of the league, regardless of color, are Americans. That's their nationality. There is no black "National" anthem. Black is not a nation. The United States is a nation. Canada is a nation. All the countries in Africa are nations. You don't get a different national anthem based on what color your skin is.

It's absurd pandering at its finest.

edit: You want to play a song that is symbolic of supporting a cause at the beginning of a game, that's fine. Don't call it a national anthem, and don't put it on the same level as an actual national anthem.

Yes, for people who complain about everyone being snowflakes and how stupid cancel culture is. Then "OMG they are doing something that has no impact on the game or anything but I'M DONE!"

First off, nobody is putting it on the level of the National Anthem and it is being played for 1 game before the National Anthem as a symbol of the struggle that is still going on in this country and should not be.

This song represents the resolve of Black America and their resolve to persevere. The designation as "Black National Anthem" is symbolic to that cause, which should not be so hard to understand. What you call pandering is merely an acknowledgement that work is not done and why it is so offensive to your sensibilities, when nobody is saying it should "replace" the National Anthem is mind boggling.

Maybe take a moment to put yourselves in someone else's shoes and allow a brief moment of dignity and acknowledgement. It won't destroy your way of life.

Only event that should have the national anthem is one with the national team. I'm all for the ending of the anthem before games. I get the idea of it during/immediately after wars, 4th of July, Memorial Day, Veteran's Day. But unless the United States is playing, it's not needed.

This is some of the most ignorant shit I've ever heard. Lift Every Voice and Sing has been referred to as the Black National Anthem for over 100 years! Not to mention that countries and nations aren't the same thing. You've likely heard of the Seminole Nation or Cherokee Nation. The Arab Nation consists of 22 Arab speaking countries. The German Nation doesn't confine itself to the state of Germany (fwiw, this became an issue in the 1930s). Nations are groups of people. Countries are territories. Sometimes they overlap, but not always.

This country's national anthem is only the first couple stanzas of a ridiculously racist poem written by a compelte shitbag over 250 years ago.

The fact that anyone defends this song is absurd.

it represents everything wrong with this country from the beginning.

it needs to be replaced.

I also agree and fully support the ending of the singing/playing of the national anthem before sporting events that do NOT include some form of the American NATIONAL team.

Stop pandering to redneck flag waving hoo-haaas that think their ability to scream 'Murica" louder than anyone else makes them somehow superior.

nationalism like that leads to fascist states. And we're getting WAY too close to that lately.

It is going to be interesting to see how it is structured. I imagine there are roster bonus kicking in every so often. Can't imagine even half the contract is actually guaranteed.

That could be structured as a win/win.

Mahomes gets more guaranteed money than anyone in history by far.

But, assuming normal cap growth, he will be a bargain for the Chiefs for the second half of the deal.

Or, maybe they just made it a percentage of the cap, like some have suggested.
