It's amazing how many states are going with let's steal the election.. when the SCOTUS declines to hear it, there is going to be violence...

So can we get rid of the ridiculous electoral college now since these states are clearly fine making up their own rules.

All of those states also changed their voting laws to adapt for the pandemic. So their results should probably be tossed as well.

Too many political threads so not sure where this one should go:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/09/polit...ion/index.html

After pausing in the months before the election, federal authorities are now actively investigating the business dealings of Hunter Biden, a person with knowledge of the probe said. His father, President-elect Joe Biden, is not implicated.

Now that the election is over, the investigation is entering a new phase. Federal prosecutors in Delaware, working with the IRS Criminal Investigation agency and the FBI, are taking overt steps such as issuing subpoenas and seeking interviews, the person with knowledge said.

Considering that Trump is going to self pardon and pardon his kids; Joe should just pardon Hunter day one and we move on.

Who actually gets to decide whether "a state" joins Texas in that? Is it just the state AG's call? 17 /50 just seems like so much when it's clearly a DoA lawsuit and one you can give lip support while ignoring officially even if you're cornered by MAGA idiots.

I think it depends on the laws of that state. I know there was a controversy when former GA Attorney General (Thurbert Baker) was appealing a case to the Supreme Court. The Governor at the time didn't want to appeal, but since he was an elected separately, it was ruled that he got to make the final decision. It looks like only 3 AG's are appointed (Hawaii, New Hampshire, Wyoming), so I imagine in those states, the governor would make the final call.

Hard to tell if GOP leaders are so naïve that they think that Trump will suddenly decide to admit he lost on December 14th or if they think that we are so naïve that we believe them when they say that.

Actually, it isn't really hard. These are smart people. They know what they are doing. They just expect us to be too stupid to notice. Any elected official who hasn't denounced Trump's coup attempt is in on the coup attempt. And the occasional anonymous quote to a reporter that they'd rather not be doing a coup does not change that.

dola: It isn't the coup they object to. It is the fact that the coup isn't succeeding. They are afraid that a failed coup might look bad to Georgia runoff voters.

Yeah, they're just hedging their bets. The coup is a long shot, but if they can get it, it's worth trying to get for them.

It's more scary/frustrating/sad that no one is standing up and trying to do something about it. The Dems are basically pretending it's not happening and the GOP are all willing accomplices. And the populace is either 100% behind it or just trying to laugh it off because it's being done by a buffoon. Anyone not seeing this as a giant flashing red light for the next couple of decades is not paying enough attention.

Actually, that whole exchange is pretty relevant

Kent Brockman
: Mr. Simpson, how do you respond to the charge that petty vandalism such as graffiti is down 80% while heavy sack beatings are up a shocking 900%?
Homer
: Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. Forty percent of all people know that.
Kent Brockman
: I see. What do you say to the accusation that your group has been causing more crimes than it's been preventing?
Homer
: Oh, Kent, I'd be lying if I said my men weren't committing crimes.
Kent Brockman
: Touche.

I am sure he has some poll that says 78% of respondents believe the election is rigged. Most likely it is an webpage poll on something like Newsmax.

I've been reading some of these briefs for the Texas SCOTUS filing, and some of these are just dumb (like the one posted below). This whole filing again reinforces my idea that none of this stuff was ever filed in real expectation to succeed. It is only hoping something catches SCOTUS attention enough to stop the process so the electoral college voting deadline has past. It is super long shot, but if they throw enough crap against the wall, they hope something will stick.

Maybe we can give the Toledo Strip back to Michigan?

I am still trying to decide where I would move. Virginia is probably most like home, but I could see Oregon as a possibility if I could get used to living on the West Coast.

Yes, I know. That was kinda the joke, since Toledo is the armpit of America and the idea of fighting FOR it is funny as hell.

The problem you have are the blue cities in red states. Atlanta and Austin sure as hell don't want to be part of Jesusland. We may have to do an airlift to keep them supplied over enemy lines.

So it seems my house rep signed onto the lawsuit with SCOTUS. It makes sense, since his grandparents name is on half the buildings in town and he's never earned anything in his life. He calls himself a small business owner, his parents literally own the lease on his business.

I hope one day these people can actually be put on trial for treason.

Ut-oh. The federal judge (Trump appointment) is suggesting he does have jurisdiction to hear the Wisconsin case. This would be the first federal judge to say they gave jurisdiction.

To follow up, the judge did seem to think that the questions raised should have been handled before the election. It doesn't sound like he was to favorable to the Trump case, but it will still the first federal judge that has said they have jurisdiction in any of these cases.

106 GOP Reps have signed on to the amicus brief in the Texas case. The GOP is pretty clearly anti-democracy now.

So proud of my AG for opting out, even though it was an EXTREMELY unpopular decision among many in this very very red state.

Edit: State AG is such a strange office - they have a different role in every state, depending on tradition, the person holding the office, the relationship with the legislature, the political ambition involved, etc. At the end of the day, though, they're just the lawyer for the state. They shouldn't be policy-driven. Very few live up to that ideal.

Edit: but, our nutjob Lt. Governor is trying to join on her own. This dispute will not be good for AG Office funding next year, but, it is the right thing to do.

I would love to see what the reaction would be if New York filed a similar lawsuit against West Virginia and Kentucky (and/or insert your favorite red state). I can just imagine Lindsay Graham and Ted Cruz and Rand Paul spinning in circles on how one is sensible and patriotic while the other is an abuse and mockery of the legal system.

How many days away are we from Trump retweeting someone declaring that the 15th Amendment should be repealed and the 19th should be amended to remove urban and suburban women, followed by 70% of GOP officials saying every option should be explored?

Funny that he said no one has even come close to losing while winning those states. He, himself, came real close in 2016.

I don’t like this multiverse where we all have to go along with his delusions in order to stroke his ego.
